Fans of Selena Gomez are very much aware of the health turmoil she faced when she suffered lupus-related organ damage. This forced her to undergo a kidney transplant, and although it was a success, the whole ordeal was shrouded in controversy.
Francia Raisa, Gomez’s best friend at the time, donated one of her kidneys to the actress in 2017 in hopes of saving her life. Unfortunately, their friendship seemingly soured after the operation, with the singer facing backlash after she forgot to mention her donor in an interview.

Francia Raisa, known for her work in How I Met Your Father, gave one of her kidneys to Selena Gomez in the summer of 2017. She has previously spoken about how disappointed she was that, as the donor, she was not the first to know that they were a match.
While speaking with Self Magazine, she revealed she was angry that someone broke the news to her friend before she found out about it.
When I found out I was a match, it wasn’t in the way I’d expected. One day, I got a phone call from Selena, a FaceTime, and she’s like: ‘We’re a match!’ I was like, ‘Yay! What? How do you know this?’
Raisa said she had planned a way to break the news to Gomez, and she only needed enough time. Unfortunately, the Calm Down singer already knew it and would have been expecting that her friend would push through with the surgery.
Gomez, in her interview with Today, notably said she knew her friend wanted it to be a surprise, but “somebody ruined it” for her. Raisa also noted in the same conversation that donors always find out first. She even asked the nurses how much time she had before she could decide because she wanted to pray and talk to her pastor first.
After Gomez called her to reveal they were a match, she was shocked at first, but later on claimed that it could be the sign or affirmation from God that she was asking for.

Raisa had clarified that there’s no beef between her and Gomez despite their falling out after the surgery. However, fans have speculated that the singer may have allegedly spoken to her doctor to inform her first before telling the donor. Read their tweets below:

Both of them have recovered from the physical strain of that surgery, but the emotional and psychological effects of it will always be a memory that won’t go away.
