Disney’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, titled Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, has turned out to be one of the most controversial movies of 2025.
Directed by Marc Webb, Snow White found itself surrounded by controversies from the very get-go, and the lead actress’ comments about the original movie did not help at all.

The movie, which is reportedly one of the most expensive films, was released on March 21, 2025. Snow White opened up to mixed reviews from critics and the audience. Even though Rachel Zegler’s performance was appreciated, fans have not moved past her comments made on a talk show that reflect her personality and the ongoing controversy.
Rachel Zegler shares her experience of working with CGI characters on Snow White
Actress Rachel Zegler, who recently appeared as Snow White in Disney’s Snow White, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and revealed her audition process. The actress shared that she was cast as Snow White before she played María in West Side Story. Zegler said,
I actually got a really glowing recommendation from Steven Spielberg to Marc Webb, who directed Snow White. And I also got a text from Steven kind of alluding to the fact that I had gotten the part before I found out. I wished him a Happy Father’s Day, and he texted me a bunch of apple emojis as a response.
The actress was also asked about doing scenes alongside CGI characters, to which she described it as ‘the hardest thing I’ve ever done.’ Rachel Zegler went on to explain that it’s amazingly rewarding when you see the finished scene on-screen, but one has to do basically three versions of it. She recalled that one is with a human in the space, then with puppets, and then with what’s called a clean pass.

The 23-year-old mentioned;
And the thing you have to do with props, because they need to turn the prop into a CG prop and put it into the CG character’s hand, is just drop it on the floor. That cut of the movie I hope comes out someday, where it’s just me dropping things on the floor.
Snow White has faced criticism over replacing the seven dwarfs with CGI to avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original 1937 movie.
In a statement to Deadline, the studios shared that they are going to take a different approach with the seven characters and have consulted with the members of the dwarfism community.
Rachel Zegler’s comment about being a ‘narcissist’ makes a return following the release of Snow White
In March 2023, Rachel Zegler appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where she spoke about her movie West Side Story. The host mentioned at the time that there had been a lot of excitement for the movie Snow White and went on to ask her if she had ever been on a Snow White ride in Disneyland, to which she said,
I get stopped for photos every time I’m in line for the Snow White ride, and I have to pretend like, ‘Oh God, that’s crazy that we’re in front of this.’ I am a narcissist.
Well, it turns out Disney producer Marc Platt’s son, Jonah Platt, actually believes that Rachel Zegler is a narcissist. He replied to a post where a critic labeled his father as creepy for flying to NYC to have a chat with the actress about her political media post. In the comment he wrote (via Page Six),
Yeah, my dad, the producer of an enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20-year-old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie.
Jonah Platt claims that the actress has signed a multi-million dollar contract to star in and promote the live-action musical. He went on to say that Zegler’s actions clearly hurt the movie’s box office. He also replied to a comment that noted that the actress is entitled to free speech by stating that free speech does not mean one is allowed to say whatever they want in their private employment without repercussions.

Platt lastly mentioned that tens of thousands of people worked on the movie, and Zegler hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of all the colleagues and crew, and blue-collar workers. Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.
An insider had shared with Variety that Rachel Zegler did not understand the repercussions of her actions as far as what that meant for the movie, for her co-star Gal Gadot, or anyone.
Snow White is playing in theaters.
