Rangers should sign Celtic star Greg Taylor says Kris Boyd as Ibrox hero reveals how shock swoop would ‘tick the boxes’

KRIS BOYD has challenged Rangers to sign Greg Taylor on a summer free from Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers conceded defeat at the weekend in his attempts to keep the Scotland left-back at Parkhead.

Kris Boyd has urged his old club Rangers to make a shock swoop[/caption]

The 27-year-old – who has won ten major trophies in six years with Celts – is out of contract at the end of the season.

He will lose first-choice to Kieran Tierney and has been linked with moves to England, the MLS and Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb.

But Boyd, a former Kilmarnock team-mate of Taylor, has urged Gers to make a move for the new dad and keep him in Scotland.

Speaking on Go Ballistic – on the Scottish Sun’s YouTube channel – he said: “If you’re Rangers, would you offer Greg Taylor a contract?

“It wouldn’t be the worst one for me for my club to have a little conversation with him. Could he switch sides in Glasgow?

“I know the rivalry between the two clubs but he’s Scottish and he ticks the boxes. You could ask the question.

“Is he a better player than Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz? Well, I think he’s shown for a period of time what he can do.

“This could actually generate funds if they sold one of the left-backs. They are potentially saleable assets.

“Greg has shown for a period of time now how consistent he has been. If he’s not going to be at Celtic, he wants to play regularly.

“Greg shows up every single week. He’s probably going to be one of those ones that only when he’s left people will start to appreciate what they had.

“Even when he was at Kilmarnock, we have seen what he brings to a team.

“It’s behind the scenes for me it’s more important, too, because you know what you’re going to get on the pitch.

“He trains at a level every day and gives his max because he knows he has to.

“Every single day trains to his max, whether he’s playing or not. What that then does is show up every single person around you.

“It was the exact same even when he went through a spell when he wasn’t playing at Kilmarnock and and as well.

“The weekend for me was telling that it’s over for Greg at Celtic. Brendan obviously decided to speak about it.

“Listen, Brendan might have been trying to put a little bit of pressure on the Celtic board.

“But I get the feeling Brendan is running the show right now. If he really wanted him to stay, he would have got it done.

“Kieran coming back to Celtic is a huge thing.”

Boyd also reckons Taylor would be able to cope with the pressure of following in the footsteps of the likes of Kenny Miller, Steven Pressley and Alfie Conn by playing for both halves of the Old Firm.

He added: “ There will be a lot of noise now on social media.

“But I don’t think it’s like what it was in the past.

“Social media, that’s easy. I have to do it every week, just block them!”
