Charlie Sheen led the hit sitcom Two and a Half Men for nearly a decade before his exit from the series. However, despite the controversies, his character, Charlie Sheen, remains iconic, though many criticize him for being an irresponsible, selfish, alcoholic womanizer with no sense of responsibility toward others.
However, Charlie Harper might not be the worst character in the series, as it is widely believed that Alan Harper, played by Jon Cryer, is the one who deserves the title for being a freeloading parasite who only got worse with time.

Why is Jon Cryer’s Alan Harper the worst character in Two and a Half Men?
The Two and a Half Men fandom has long been divided on who was the catalyst for the show’s success, which has since become one of the most popular sitcoms. However, one thing that many agree on is the supposedly worst character in the series.
And the dubious honor goes to Jon Cryer’s character, Alan Harper, a sentiment widely shared among fans, as the topic continues to be debated even years after the series ended.

From the very beginning of the show, Alan Harper comes uninvited to live with his brother, Charlie Harper, despite having little contact with him, and assumes that he would be just fine with him and his son staying in his house indefinitely.
That was just the beginning as Alan quickly made himself comfortable at Charlie’s expense and continued to do so even after Charlie supposedly passed away.
Not that he did not have the opportunity to move out, he was well-employed and even won half a million dollars. But instead of securing his own future, he squandered the money on his new wife, who eventually divorced him as well. However, despite all that, Alan Harper remained as entitled as ever.

He frequently lectured Charlie about his lifestyle and drinking habits, never minding that his own actions were just as questionable, if not worse.
In the end, Alan had little moral ground to stand on, other than being the brother who only showed up when he needed a place to stay and shamelessly leeched off Charlie whenever it suited him.
Two and a Half Men fans express their distaste for Alan Harper
Two and a Half Men fans widely agree with the sentiment of Alan Harper is the worst character in the sitcom. While some fans justified his actions, others did not hold back in sharing their criticism, arguing, “He is a character with zero redeemable qualities.”
“I tend to agree though, he’s insufferable,” another fan said in a Reddit discussion while praising Cryer’s committed portrayal in the series. Others echoed similar sentiments, calling the character a “parasite who got gradually worse.”

Some fans also added that while almost every character on the show is unbearable, Alan stands out, with one saying, “Every time I see Alan on screen it makes me so ridiculously angry.”
And the frustration makes sense, given that Charlie was undeniably flawed and problematic but at the very least, he was responsible for himself. Alan, on the other hand, was entitled, hypocritical, and completely lacking in integrity, making him arguably even more unlikable than Charlie Harper.
Two and a Half Men is available to watch on Peacock.
