Even though it’s into season 3, some people are still just discovering AMC’s Dark Windsshow, and they may be surprised to learn it’s based on a series of books by Tony Hillerman. Set in the Navajo Nation in the 1970s, Dark Windsfollows the Navajo Tribal Police led by Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and his deputies Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon). Each season has adapted one or two of the books, and Dark Winds season 3’s story finds them working on different cases in different states.
