While there is no doubt that The Legend of Zelda has a detailed storyline that could fill multiple movies. But many were concerned if Hollywood would be able to do complete justice to the beloved game or not.

Fans express skepticism over The Legend of Zelda trilogy update

On several occasions, Hollywood has tried to bring the majestic beauty of the video game world to the big screens. While some have managed to keep the legacy of the games alive, others have massively failed. The success of The Super Mario Bros. in 2023 paved the way for the genre and established what happens when a game is handled carefully.

Created by Nintendo, the series was first released in 1986.

But when it comes to Zelda, fans have mixed feelings. Reports now suggest that instead of one film, it will be a trilogy, with key roles signed for three movies over six years. This update quickly spread across X.

While some are obviously thrilled about this idea, the majority of the rest are unsure if the story can be stretched across three movies. Fans shared their opinions in the comments section.

Sony Pictures has officially announced that the first Zelda movie will arrive in theaters on March 26, 2027, via Variety. Interestingly, this project will be a joint effort of Sony and Nintendo, with the latter taking the lead in financing the movie. The director at the helm is Wes Ball, famous for his involvement in The Maze Runner series and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Even with such a stellar team behind the project, fans are worried about how the movies will take shape. The video games are widely popular for their deep storylines and how the players shape the adventures themselves. So, turning all of that into a single movie won’t be easy, let alone turning it into a trilogy.

Is director Wes Ball planning a new Planet of the Apes trilogy?

Looks like the Planet of the Apes universe is far from over, and director Wes Ball is already looking ahead for its sequel. Following the huge success of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects, talks about the next installment have already begun.

While no official statements have been announced, Ball and his creative team have hinted at such possibilities in the future.

In an interview via Collider, Wes Ball detailed his enthusiasm for expanding the story. While he was careful not to reveal any major detail, he did say:

Yeah, we’re talking about it. That’s all I can say, really. But I’m greedy. I’ve got multiple things that I’m playing with right now. I’d love to do all of them, but there are so many cool places that we could go with the next one. We have these ideas of where we want it to go. Things are set up in this movie that you don’t even realize are setups.

Beyond discussing the franchise’s future, Ball reflected on what makes Planet of the Apes unique in today’s blockbuster landscape. In a time when many Hollywood films rely on massive budgets and spectacle, he sees this series as one of the few that still delivers intelligent, thought-provoking storytelling.

While fans will have to wait for an official confirmation on the next part, Wes Ball’s answers did reveal that Planet of the Apes isn’t going anywhere.
