“What are you gonna do, fire the guy?”: Pedro Pascal Sticks It Up to the Platts With Rachel Zegler Support After ‘Snow White’ Failure

Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White didn’t exactly get the fairytale ending it had hoped for. Made with a staggering $270M budget, the movie flopped hard at the box office—and guess who took most of the heat? Lead actress Rachel Zegler. After her controversial interviews made headlines, it became easy for people to shift the blame on her.

Even Snow White’s producer Marc Platt’s son, Jonah Platt, went full rogue mode and called her out online for hurting “the film’s box office”. But not everyone’s buying that narrative. Disney’s staple, Pedro Pascal, entered the chat, unafraid to speak his mind. Unlike the Platts, Pascal praised Rachel Zegler, showing her some much-needed support.

Pedro Pascal threw his weight behind Rachel Zegler after Snow White bombed

Following the grand failure of Disney’s Snow White remake, the internet’s favorite daddy, Pedro Pascal had something to say. While most moviegoers and industry insiders appeared to shift the blame solely toward the lead actress, Rachel Zegler, for the film’s failure, Pascal wasn’t willing to continue the trend.

Nope, like a certified king would do—Pedro Pascal stood up for Rachel Zegler (via Pop Crave). Despite Snow White’s face-planting at the box office, Pascal wasn’t willing to buy the narrative that Zegler deliberately drove the film to its downfall. And honestly, he’s right—no star wishes to butcher their own films.

Therefore, taking to his Instagram story, Pedro Pascal shared a picture of Rachel Zegler, branding her an “icon”. Perhaps reflecting on her enviable filmography, where she found her breakout role in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, and went on to star in the Hunger Games franchise, Pascal urged netizens to judge her talent based on her entire career, not just one movie.

And now, even fans are appearing to switch teams. Even the ones who might have previously slammed Rachel Zegler, are now standing with her, especially after Pedro Pascal implied that movies are a team effort. As he highlighted that writers, CGI wizards, and filmmakers should take their fair share of accountability, people are starting to withdraw their rage toward Zegler.

Jonah Platt blamed Rachel Zegler as the sole reason behind Snow White‘s failure

Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal’s Instagram story appeared in the wake of the Snow White producer Marc Platt’s son, Jonah Platt’s headline-making comments toward Rachel Zegler. Previously, after the film struggled miserably, during its opening weekend, the 38-year-old star took to his Instagram to point fingers at the actress.

Although he has now deleted the post, Jonah Platt openly bashed Rachel Zegler for her  “immature desires” that risked every cast and crew, whose livelihood depended on the film’s success. Further, calling her a “narcissist, Platt tried to educate Zegler on her idea of free speech and its repercussions (via Variety).

Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20-year-old employee for dragging her personal politics in the middle of promoting the movie.

Free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions. Tens of thousands of people worked on that film, and she hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of all the colleagues, crew, and blue-collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful.

So, while Jonah Platt openly accused Rachel Zegler of the film’s downfall that directly affected his father, Pedro Pascal stood up to the Platts and implied that blaming the actress alone isn’t fair. Further, he showered Zegler with some extra sunshine after she went through some stormy hate.

Snow White is running in theaters worldwide.
