Christopher Nolanis regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation because of the complete creative control he has over his projects. While Oppenheimerwas based on true events and The Dark Knighttrilogy was inspired by Bob Kane’s original Batman comics, these films took notable stylistic and thematic deviations that established them as completely distinct works of art. Considering that Nolan is incredibly talented at worldbuilding and creating compelling characters, it is no surprise that his weakest film to date is one where he wasn’t really given the opportunity to do either. While calling it a “bad” film may be an overstretch, Insomniais a twisty crime mystery that isn’t nearly as compelling as the Norwegian film that it is based on.
