Dexter, based on the homicidal tendencies of a psychopath who is a forensic expert by day and a murderous anti-hero by night, has been going on for 8 seasons and the world is simply loving it.
With Michael C. Hall portraying the lead role of Dexter Morgan alongside Clyde Phillips as its showrunner, things were going great until Dexter: New Blood was released. Despite the negative ratings, we’ve got trust in Michael C. Hall that he will once again shine in Dexter: Resurrection.

Michael C. Hall has got Dexter in his blood
Dexter ran for 8 seasons, and later, a sequel show was made titled Dexter: New Blood. Although the show had its haters, the franchise continued to experiment and try making different things work.

Dexter: New Blood was a wake-up call that the same repeated formula cannot continue to work in the changing and rapidly modern times. In 2024, another show was released called Dexter: Original Sin, and the world loved it.
Set 15 years before the events of Dexter, the show is a sequel to the classic series, which fans loved upon its premiere. In an interview with ScreenRant, showrunner Clyde Phillips talked about their upcoming show Dexter: Resurrection.
It’s a whole new show. Michael Hall called me and said, “you know what? I’ve got Dexter in my bones. Clyde, you’ve got Dexter in your bones. Let’s keep going.
That is how the idea and the drive for Dexter: Resurrection came to be. Although people are glad that the show is returning with Michael C. Hall reprising his role, there’s just one little problem.
In Dexter: New Blood finale, Dexter Morgan suffers a fatal death, and that is where the show decided to end things. So, there is a little problem of bringing Dexter Morgan back from the dead for another show.
Dexter Morgan will need to be resuscitated for Dexter: Resurrection
To sum up some of the things, Dexter Morgan died in New Blood. A prequel was released called Dexter: Original Sin, and now there are talks of another show called Dexter: Resurrection.

With Michael C. Hall wanting to return to the show, showrunner Clyde Phillips had to come up with a story in which Dexter Morgan could be brought back from the dead.
My team and I figured it out, pitched it to Michael. He loved it. Pitched it to Showtime and Paramount. ‘They’re not going to say no to this. I mean, it’s their biggest show!’ And we start shooting that in a month. So, all while shooting Original Sin, we were writing Resurrection.
To sum it up, the Dexter franchise has only ever had one bad show to its name, but Michael C. Hall’s comments might just be the push that fans needed to trust the character again.
Dexter: Original Sin, which was released in 2021, currently stands at a rating of 8.2/10 on IMDb and a whopping 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Dexter: Original Sin is available to stream on Paramount+.
