Mouni Roy Reveals Sanjay Dutt Was a ‘Big, Big Reason’ for Her to Join The Bhootnii”

Mouni Roy, known for her iconic roles in Indian television and films, will soon be seen as a ‘bhootni’ in her upcoming film The Bhootnii. The film’s trailer was recently launched, and during the event, Mouni spoke candidly about her role and the reasons she joined the film.

 

Mouni shared how, from the very beginning, she knew she had to be a part of this film. “I think within the first 20 minutes, when Siddhant Sir narrated the story, I knew I had to do this film. I said, ‘You can’t cast anyone else for this role. It has to be me.’ All of them were kind enough to cast me, and I’m eternally grateful for that,” she said.

 

Reflecting on her career, Mouni mentioned how she initially played roles of goddesses like Sati, Shivanya, Shivangi, and Meera. She continued, “Then Mahadev happened, followed by Naagin and Brahmastra. I feel like there’s some extra-terrestrial connection to these roles I’ve played.”

 

She also spoke about her experience on set, especially with Sanjay Dutt. “We were such big fans on set. It took me three days to tell him I’m a huge fan. I was so intimidated to be sharing the screen with him. It was a dream come true for all of us,” she said, expressing her admiration for Sanjay Dutt.

 

Sanjay Dutt’s presence in the film was a significant factor in her decision to be a part of The Bhootnii. Mouni expressed, “Sanjay Sir was a very big, big reason for me to be a part of this film. I have always been a huge fan of his, and it was a dream for me to share screen time with him.”

 

On the genre of the film, Mouni described The Bhootnii as a fantasy fiction, an escapist, light-hearted genre that transports audiences to a world that doesn’t exist. “It’s fantasy fiction. It’s escapism. It’s light-hearted, and it takes you to a world that doesn’t exist. We all love a little dreaming, and if we can bring that to life on screen, why not? Horror comedy is a genre that has so much strength—it’s raw because you’re laughing, crying, feeling scared, and experiencing romance and passion. Whether on the big or small screen, it’s all about entertainment.”

 

The Bhootnii is an upcoming Hindi-language horror film, written and directed by Sidhaant Sachdev, and produced by Deepak Mukut and Sanjay Dutt. The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Singh, Mouni Roy, and Palak Tiwari. It is set to release on April 18, 2025.
