THEY say you should never meet your heroes.

But not everyone’s hero is Lionel Messi.

Scottish Paralympian Gordon Reid with the football legend

Scottish Paralympian Gordon Reid was given a moment he’ll never forget when he had the chance to catch up with his footballing idol this week.

The two-time gold-medalist knows all about being the best in his chosen sport, having previously been ranked No.1 for both singles and doubles in wheelchair tennis.

He even holds the record for most grand slam titles in wheelchair men‘s doubles with 26 to his name.

And this week he met another athlete who is also considered the greatest of all-time.

Reid, 33, shared a picture of him catching up with the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Messi, 37, is still tearing it up in the game with David Beckham‘s Inter Miami after moving stateside in 2023.

And Reid, who is also in Miami, finally crossed paths with the Argentinian legend.

He shared a picture of the iconic meeting and revealed he had one thing to say to the football legend.

He asked him to sign for his boyhood team Rangers.

Sharing the snap on X, he wrote: “What an honour to meet the GOAT. Told him to sign for Rangers, of course!”

Messi famously had the chance to join the Light Blues in the early days of his career.

Former Gers boss Alex McLeish tried to sign the Barcelona hero in 2003 when he was just starting to break through into the Nou Camp first team.

He was bizarrely brought to McLeish’s attention after his son Jon spotted him on Championship Manager.

The Catalan giants quickly booted out Gers’ approach though and it remains possibly the biggest what-if in Scottish football.
