Solo Leveling anime has been making slight changes to the plotline ever since it began airing. From changes to the established story to altering Jinwoo’s character little by little, the anime has made quite a few changes.
At the same time, the changes have not been massive enough to be too noticeable. But the Episode 12 of Season 2 went beyond that rule. While fans are debating whether the decision was beneficial or not, the upcoming finale of Season 2 will determine Jinwoo’s fate.

But this time, the change will not only affect Jinwoo’s personality but also affect another character’s fate.
Solo Leveling season 2 episode 12 showed a massive change in the story
Min Byung-Gyu is a South Korean S-Rank healer who participated in the Jeju Island Raid with other S-Rankers. He was a massive help in the mission to kill the Ant Queen as he quickly healed his team members. However, when the Ant King attacked, the healer was quickly tracked and eliminated.

The Ant King also kills off almost half of the team of hunters, and Cha Hae-In receives mortal injuries. In the webtoon, Jinwo attempts to heal Cha Hae-In using the elixir of life, but it doesn’t work. With no other way to save her, he resurrects Byung-Gyu as a shadow soldier in his army.
By using Byung-Gyu’s powers, Jinwoo is able to heal Cha Hae-In. He then releases the shadow of the healer and lets him rest in peace. In the process, he also keeps his promise to Baek. However, the anime seems to be changing the fact that it was Jinwoo’s conscious decision to create a shadow soldier in the webtoon.
In Episode 12, towards the very end, when Jinwoo has no idea how to save Cha Hae-In, he suddenly turns his head. He hears a distant whisper, which is so faint that most audiences would just think it’s the sound of the wind. But in reality, it was Byung-Gyu or at least his spirit telling Jinwoo to use his powers.
How this change will alter the storyline

Solo Leveling has been actively changing the character of Jinwoo throughout the anime. From the fight with Goto to the culling of Kim Chul, the anime has been specifically making changes in areas that would otherwise make Jinwoo a questionable character. It seems like the same thing has been repeated in Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 12.
Jinwoo has originally resurrected Byung-Gyu of his own accord. He never once thought of the morality behind his actions, as saving Cha Hae-In came first. But in the anime, Byung-Gyu is the one telling Jinwoo to use his healing powers. Thus, the moral conflict part has been removed entirely, effectively rendering Jinwoo a morally white character.
It seems like in the anime both Jinwoo and Byung-Gyu have realized that they need to give up a part of themselves to save Cha Hae-In. They don’t have any other options and Jinwoo could not rely on the Ant King’s healing powers either. Thus, the anime has once again made Jinwoo a righteous character rather than the morally gray man that he is.
