“Is there any reason why he takes five leap years to reload?”: Marvel Rivals Season 2 Must Update an S-Tier Vanguard Hero’s Pathetic Reload Time

Marvel Rivals has quickly established itself as a worthy contender in the hero shooter arena, with NetEase delivering a surprisingly well-balanced roster of heroes that would make even Thanos nod in approval. But there’s one glaring issue that’s making players pull their hair out in frustration.

We’re talking, of course, about the Master of Magnetism himself. While Magneto has risen to S-tier status among the Vanguard heroes, there’s something decidedly un-magnetic about his reload speed. It’s so painfully slow that players could probably finish their taxes, learn a new language, or witness the heat death of the universe before getting back into the action.

And it’s not just a minor annoyance—it’s actively hampering what should be one of the most satisfying tanks to play in the entire game.

Why Magneto’s reload speed is killing the Vanguard experience

For a character who can manipulate metal at will, Magneto sure takes his sweet time gathering a few magnetic orbs. And this issue becomes particularly painful when you’re the solo tank trying to create space for your team while three Duelists are off chasing kills instead of objectives.

What makes this particularly infuriating is how other Vanguards don’t suffer the same fate. Doctor Strange, another top-tier tank, can cancel his reload animation halfway through by deploying his shield—and still get full ammo back! Meanwhile, poor ol’ Magneto gets punished for using any ability during his reload.

This clunky mechanic feels completely at odds with the otherwise smooth gameplay that Marvel Rivals offers. When you’re in the thick of battle, trying to absorb damage for your team while managing your abilities, the last thing you need is to be caught with your pants down because you had to use your shield mid-reload and now need to re-reload.

With Season 2 reportedly focusing on the Hellfire Club, it’s the perfect opportunity for NetEase to throw Magneto players a bone. After all, what good is being an S-tier Vanguard if you’re spending half the match watching a reload animation?

The strange logic of Marvel Rivals reload mechanics

The inconsistency doesn’t stop with Magneto, though! Marvel Rivals seems to have some peculiar ideas about which heroes should be reloading in the first place.

Yes, Storm, the weather goddess who commands lightning and wind, somehow needs to reload… air? Make it make sense, NetEase.

Groot, who literally attacks by extending his limbs, needs to reload his arms. Doctor Strange needs to reload his… magic? Yet Peni Parker, who pilots a mech with actual guns, never runs out of ammo. And Hawkeye somehow has an infinite quiver of arrows that can one-shot you from across the map.

The reload inconsistency across the roster would be forgivable if it didn’t actively hamper gameplay. But when you’re playing Magneto, trying to create space for your team while managing your shields and abilities, that glacial reload speed becomes more than just an annoyance—it becomes a liability.

What’s your experience been with Magneto’s reload speed? Do you think NetEase needs to address this in Season 2, or should players just adapt to the current mechanics? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
