The Last of Us Season 2 trailer has got fans hyped up for another season of HBO’s one of the most popular series. Based on Naughty Dog’s video game, the first season followed the game’s premise of Joel escorting the immune teenager Ellie across a post-apocalyptic United States. Season 2 will partly follow The Last of Us Part II, where the character Abby becomes the protagonist.

Abby is a hated character in the game universe and actress Kaitlyn Dever, who was cast in the role, has already faced immense hatred online. However, even Abby haters were horrified by one scene in the game where she was put through torture when captured by the Seraphites. From the trailer, it appears that Bella Ramsey’s Ellie might have a similar scene in the series.
Bella Ramsey’s Ellie has a key scene changed in The Last of Us Season 2?

Ellie has been one of the major enemies of the Seraphites, who make their appearance in The Last of Us Part II. The Seraphites or the Scars are a primitivism cult in the game, that fights with the Washington Liberation Front for control over Seattle. They are known for their brutality as they disembowel their enemies and hang them for others to see.
Ellie’s first encounter with the Scars in the game is terrifying. When she travels through a park in Seattle, an arrow comes out of nowhere and pierces her shoulder. However, from the new trailer of The Last of Us Season 2, it appears that the HBO series has changed this scene between Ellie and the Scars.
Redditors noted that in one of the scenes in the trailer, a shadowy figure of a girl is shown hanging from a rope and screaming. A second view of the photo revealed that it was Ellie who was fighting for her life. Fans of the game knew instantly that it was the Seraphites’ style of torture and execution. However, they were confused since it was a change of scene from the game.
One fan suggested that the “arrow-to-the-shoulder” bit in the game may not have translated well in live-action. They suggested that it could’ve been the reason why Ellie was given another equally traumatic encounter with the Seraphites. The fan shared on Reddit:

However, other fans weren’t too happy that Ellie was given the scene that originally belonged to Abby in the game. It was Abby who underwent the traumatic hanging experience at the hands of the Seraphites.
Did The Last of Us Season 2 give a key Abby scene to Ellie?

Fan discussions on the Ellie hanging scene in The Last of Us Season 2 trailer centered around why Ellie was given Abby’s scene. In a key scene in The Last of Us Part II, Abby goes in search of Owen and passes through Martyr’s Gate, where she gets captured by Seraphites. When Abby wakes up later that night, she finds out that the Seraphites are preparing to ritually kill her.
She is hung by the neck and supported by a bucket so that she can be disemboweled before she suffocates. However, the Scars, led by Emily, are distracted by the capture of the outcast Yara. When Emily smashes Yara’s left arm, Lev attacks the Seraphites by firing arrows at them.
Abby uses the opportunity to grab Emily with her legs and Yara kills Emily. Abby kicks away the bucket in the process and begins to suffocate. Lev has to listen to Yara and cut Abby’s rope, despite his protests over Abby’s WLF association. The three of them then escape towards the pitch-black forest.
However, one fan suggested that there was no need for fans to think that Ellie got Abby’s scene. The fan shared that the scene of Ellie hanging would be a new addition to the series, and it also goes with the logic that it is a killing ritual for the Seraphites. The fan shared that Abby’s hanging bit can still happen in a third season of the show and added that it will create a parallel between the show’s two female leads.
