2025 budget will be our budget – Abdul Aziz

Former Member of Parliament for the Mion constituency, Mohammed Abdul Aziz, has assured Ghanaians that the upcoming 2025 budget will not introduce new tax burdens but will focus on eliminating wasteful expenditure.

Speaking on Joy Prime monitored by MyNewsGh, the former MP emphasized that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by President John Mahama, is committed to reducing excessive government spending rather than increasing taxes.

“We think that there has been a lot of waste, a lot of unnecessary expenditure that we have incurred in the past. As a responsible government, we would not want to burden the Ghanaian with more taxes,” he stated.

Abdul Aziz noted that the government’s primary strategy is to rationalize expenditure and cut out avoidable costs. He further highlighted that capital expenditure might see some adjustments in the first year as the new administration works towards stabilizing the economy.

According to him, the removal of taxes such as the e-levy and betting tax is not a loss of revenue but rather an incentive to boost private sector growth.

“The private sector is the largest employer in the economy, and when we give them some relief, they will have the resources to expand and create jobs,” he explained.

The former MP also stressed the need for realistic toll charges on roads to fund infrastructure. “If you’re driving a luxurious vehicle, you should be willing to pay a reasonable amount for road tolls. That’s how we fix our roads,” he added.

With expectations high for the 2025 budget, Abdul Aziz assured Ghanaians that the NDC government remains committed to economic policies that prioritize citizens’ welfare while ensuring sustainable development.
