As one of the longest and sweetest partnerships in Hollywood, fans have looked up to Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell’s relationship for decades. The pair, who started dating back in 1983, have been joined at the hip since then, and have even become proud parents and grandparents since. But, as fans the couple know all too well, they never got married.
And, as it turns out, their decision is rubbing off on Hawn’s daughter Kate Hudson. In a recent appearance at The Drew Barrymore Show, the Running Point star admitted that she’s not racing to walk down the aisle to her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa.
“I just don’t have the same like ‘Oh my God I’m gonna get married, I can’t wait and I can’t wait for the party [energy].’ It’s the opposite,” Hudson said. “I’m like, ‘Okay, I have to plan it and it’s gonna cost so much money. It’s just a lot.”
Hudson and Fujiakawa, who got engaged on Sept. 13, 2021, and share their 6-year-old daughter Rani, are open to eloping too. “Maybe,” Hudson said when prompted, adding that she also just likes “the idea of being engaged forever.”
“The contractual thing is tough for me,” she explained. “I like my freedom. I like the concept of freedom and so this thing that you’re signing a government contract…” she trailed off.
As a reminder, Hudson has been once married before to musician Chris Robinson. The two were married from 2000 and 2007 and share their 21-year-old son, Ryder.
But, despite her first marriage, it seems Hawn and Russell’s decision has now convinced her. “Well, I was raised by Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell who never signed the contract and they’ve been engaged since I was 7,” she said.
Knowing how adorable and in love they’ve always been, we don’t blame Hudson for taking a page out of their rulebook!
Hawn has been open about why they chose not to marry over the years too. “If we were married, there probably could have been times where you go, ‘Oh, c’mon — I’m done,’” Hawn said on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast last year. “What I like is waking up in the morning… and actually making a choice to be with someone.”
“I got a wild guy here,” she said. “I picked him, I like that guy.”
In other words, Hawn is always making the conscious effort to be with Russell while he’s doing the same thing on his side too. It’s no wonder Hudson wants to do the same!
