Henry Cavill is closer to the James Bond role than you think as Amazon MGM Studios took over the creative control of the character from Eon Productions. Jeff Bezos asked fans on social media for their favorite casting choice, suggesting that he might go with the popular choice. And the popular choice was obviously Cavill.
Another report suggests that Amazon might circle back to Christopher Nolan to direct the James Bond film. Nolan was earlier a top contender for the next James Bond director. However, the talks that Nolan says he had with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson went nowhere. Cavill would be the perfect 007 for Nolan after the latter’s praise for the actor.

Fans were shocked to learn about the deal between Amazon and Eon Productions a few days earlier. James Bond is now in the hands of Jeff Bezos-led Amazon MGM Studios, which could completely overhaul whatever plans Eon had for the new iteration of James Bond.
After taking over the IP, Bezos’ first question was for the fans, “Who’d you pick as the next Bond?” (via X). Fans were excited about this question from Bezos as it meant that Amazon wanted to go along with what fans demanded for this new iteration. And also, they had the resources to make it happen.
Fans came up with several names, from Tom Hardy to Aaron Taylor-Johnson. But the most popular pick was obvious. Fans wanted Henry Cavill in the role. As Cavill’s role as Agent 007 is inching closer to reality, fans are excited about another rumored update.
While discussing the possibilities of James Bond under Amazon, a top franchise producer told TheWrap that Amazon had already contacted Christopher Nolan to helm the film. The producer shared that “there is strong mutual desire to make it happen” between Nolan and Amazon.
If this is true, fans might get to see the director joining forces with Cavill in the film. The Oppenheimer director already admired Cavill’s work and had earlier praised him for his work in Man of Steel. Nolan shared about Cavill (via Digital Spy):
Henry’s a terrific choice as Superman. Other than having the look, he gave an incredible performance in the test we did and I think he’s going to be something really extraordinary in the role.
Getting Nolan and Cavill on board for the project would be easier for Amazon than for Eon. However, some fans are concerned that Amazon may not have the commitment to the character that Eon had throughout these years.
Christopher Nolan is definitely interested in directing James Bond movie
Earlier, Christopher Nolan had to pass up the opportunity to direct Spectre due to a busy schedule. In an interview with Playboy Magazine, Nolan revealed that he had maintained communication with the former producers of the James Bond franchise. The Dark Knight director shared his excitement in potentially directing a Bond film with Playboy:
I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the years. I deeply love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they do with it.
In another interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Nolan admitted that it would be an “amazing privilege” to direct a James Bond film. However, Nolan presented a condition to have creative freedom over the project if he were to take it on. Nolan shared with Josh Horowitz:
You wouldn’t want to take on a film not fully committed to what you bring to the table creatively. So as a writer, casting, everything, it’s a full package. You’d have to be really needed, you’d have to be really wanted in terms of bringing the totality of what you bring to a character.
Amazon might probably give Nolan the “full package” he wants. They might even go along with whatever the director has in his mind about a rebooted version of the British spy. Earlier, predictions suggested that Nolan intended to go back in time with the character.
