“Wait for him as long as needed”: Christopher Nolan Directing the Next James Bond Movie Is Now a Possibility After His Biggest Obstacle Went Away

Hollywood is filled with filmmakers bringing out some of the most magical cinematic pieces out there. However, in this, Christopher Nolan can easily be leaps and bounds ahead of others with projects such as Oppenheimer, Inception, and The Dark Knight trilogy. But apart from this, he has also been a dream candidate to direct a James Bond movie.

For several years, different rumors emerged about his involvement in the franchise, but creative differences and studio constraints all stood in the way. But it seems like Amazon has other plans, and a James Bond movie directed by Nolan might become a reality in the near future.

Throughout the years, several directors have brought the iconic spy to life on the big screen. Whether it be Martin Campbell’s Casino Royale in 2006 or the last movie, No Time to Die, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga in 2021, all of them brought their own twist to the franchise. After that, there were rumors that Christopher Nolan would be directing the next James Bond movie.

While this did not come to fruition then, now it seems like everything might be working in favor of Nolan. And in this, Amazon is playing a key role as they are now in control of the Bond franchise following its acquisition of MGM. Nolan did have conversations in the past with the franchise’s longtime producers, but it never materialized.

Now, industry insiders suggest that if Amazon is serious about further establishing James Bond’s future, then they definitely need to get Nolan on board. Some insiders detailed their thoughts via The Wrap and added:

If Amazon wants to preserve the legacy, they should do everything possible to get Chris Nolan and wait for him as long as needed.

There’s no secret that the filmmaker himself has had a sweet spot for the Bond movies and was always open to the idea of directing one. He revealed the same during an interview with Happy Sad Confused and added:

The influence of those movies in my filmography is embarrassingly apparent. And so there’s no attempt to shy away from that. I love the films. You know, it would be an amazing privilege to do one. You wouldn’t want to take on a film not fully committed to what you bring to the table creatively. So as a writer, casting, everything, it’s a full package.

But despite this, he made it clear that he will only take over the project if he has full creative control, including writing, overall direction, and casting. This was the same demand that previously derailed the conversations. But now, with Amazon’s involvement, things could definitely take a different turn.

Anne Hathaway has been a part of some of the most celebrated movies out there and has also worked with Hollywood’s finest directors. One of these was Christopher Nolan, and the duo has collaborated on two projects: The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, with their third collaboration being an untitled movie.

Apart from a director-actor relationship, they also share a good bond off-screen as well. So much so that the filmmaker came to her defense when she faced severe backlash after winning an Oscar for Les Misérables in 2013.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, she dived deeper into the matter and mentioned that many people hesitated to offer her roles due to the negative attention she was getting.

But on the other hand, Nolan stood by her and didn’t let public opinion affect his decisions. She added:

I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve had in one of the best films that I’ve been a part of.

He offered her the role of Dr. Amelia Brand in the 2014 hit Interstellar and credited both Nolan and the role for saving her career at the time. She also added that she wasn’t sure if the director was aware of the impact he had on her life. But it was his support that made all the difference.
