Black Clover has plenty of negative allegations that its fandom has to fight against on a daily basis. The series is often badmouthed for having an unimpressive hero and a general plot with predictable twists and power-ups. It also has its fair share of fan service.
But that doesn’t mean Yuki Tabata keeps his female characters undeveloped. In fact, the women in Black Clover are strong and have fierce and unique personalities. And one panel in the manga proves why it’s far better than plenty of other Shonen series.
Black Clover proves its worth with a single manga panel

Noelle and Mereoleona are two of the strongest characters in Black Clover, even after accounting for the male wizards. Both are extremely powerful and have established their reputations as worthy magic knights. In fact, one panel in the Black Clover manga shows how easily the series can pass the Bechdel test.

For those who are not familiar with the test, the Bechdel test is a way to evaluate the representation of women in works of fiction. To pass it, a movie or series must have at least two women who must talk to each other and discuss anything other than a man. Fans have pointed out a panel in which Noelle and Mereoleona are bathing at an onsen.
In the resulting conversation, Mereoleona tells Noelle that she is the spitting image of her mother. Noelle then wonders about what sort of person her mother used to be, as no one ever really talks to her about it. This heart-to-heart conversation between the two passes the Bechdel test with flying colors.
Black Clover‘s female characters are not here to appease incels

There are plenty of Shonen manga in which female characters are used as eye candies and nothing more. Their powerups ultimately help the male hero, and every conversation they have with another woman is always about a man. At the end of the day, they look like one-dimensional characters whose only purpose is to provide fan service and be the love interest.
However, Black Clover does no such thing. Noelle might be Asta’s love interest, but she is also an individual with her own character arc. She hails from an abusive family where her siblings mistreated her for years before they finally accepted their wrongdoings. She also gets just as many power-ups as Asta, if not more.

Mereoleona on the other hand, is an excellent magic knight captain and is a character who is feared and revered by others. In fact, other magic captains try to avoid her due to her fiery nature. In Black Clover, Mereoleona has a significant impact and is one of the strongest characters. There are plenty of other female characters in the series as well, like Lolopechka and Vanica, who are established to be powerful heroes or villains.
Black Clover manga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
