“She ordered the hit to hurt Matt directly”: Daredevil: Born Again Maybe Reversing Foggy’s Fate and We Know Who Is Behind It All This Time

Daredevil: Born Again took one of the most bold decisions that Marvel has ever made. Daredevil ended with the establishment of Nelson Murdock & Page. A new chapter in the stories of our protagonists, and the show ended right there. Then, after a decade, the series came back and killed off Foggy Nelson in the first fifteen minutes of the series being back.

It is safe to say that the entire sequence was seriously emotional for fans. Foggy and Karen are the glue that holds Matt together. Having one part of that die naturally had a very big impact on him. At the same time, the more optimistic fans are hoping for there to be a better resolution to this storyline than Foggy just being dead.

With this, a fan recently came up with a theory about Foggy still being alive, and this has quite a lot of backing to prove it.

Bullseye didn’t kill Foggy Nelson and he never intended to

In a conversation about Foggy’s death on X, one fan put forth quite an interesting theory about him still being alive that could completely change the power structure of the series as a whole. There are two parts to this, the first naturally involving Bullseye.

When Benjamin Poindexter shot Foggy in the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again, he aimed for his heart. However, the next two simultaneous kills were aimed at the middle of their heads. The one thing that Bullseye is known for having is excellent aim. With this in mind, one cannot help but wonder why he would take a chance like this when he was looking to kill Nelson.

The answer could be very simple according to this theory. Considering the way that Poindexter shot Nelson, it could be very possible that he never intended to kill him in the first place. Instead, he could have shot him with poison at a non-lethal place, and that could have helped slow his heart rate.

This theory could easily sound like a reach, had it not been for the comic that this actually happened in.

Another character in Daredevil: Born Again is pulling the strings

In 2006, Marvel Comics released Daredevil (Vol. 2) #82, where Foggy ends up dying in prison after he was fatally stabbed. Matt heard his heart give out, with his last heartbeats echoing in his ears as his best friend died. A funeral happened, and Matt did the best he could to move on. Only for Foggy to still be alive and be in FBI witness protection.

Since a lot of elements from Daredevil: Born Again are very similar to this comic story, one could easily make the connection. However, it is the person who orchestrated all of this in the comics that could be the key to understanding the story of the first season of this series. It was Vanessa Fisk who faked Foggy’s death.

Vanessa has been notably uncharacteristic in the first two episodes of the series. Seemingly more powerful and dangerous than Fisk himself, she could have taken on the role of the ‘Queenpin.’ Considering how successful she seems to have gotten in such a short time, it would not be a stretch to think that she orchestrated it all.

By the third season of Daredevil, Vanessa is also one of the few who knows the identity of Daredevil. While Fisk did confirm that he wasn’t the one who killed Foggy, it is very likely that his wife did.

It is also important to remember that a lot of her business flourished in the absence of Daredevil; something could have been purposefully done knowing the impact Foggy’s passing would have on Matt.

Keeping all of this in mind, it could be very possible that on top of Foggy coming back, Vanessa could also be a bigger threat than Fisk this season.

Daredevil: Born Again is available for streaming on Disney+.
