JoyBoy Can Grab Lightning- Oda Must Give God Enel an Insane Power Up Before His Inevitable Rematch With Gear 5 Luffy in Elbaf

One Piece is known for reviving old enemies in fresh forms, and now that the series is approaching its final saga, speculation is at an all-time high about who among the old villains could reappear. One of the names being floated is certainly God Enel.

Now that we’ve learned JoyBoy can grab lightning when he’s in Gear 5 form, it makes absolute sense that Enel, the god of thunder as he sees himself, should make a return in dramatic style. And what better place for this climactic rematch than Elbaf, the land of giants?

Enel’s potential power-up: Awakening and advanced haki

So, just a quick reminder: Enel flew off from Skypiea and went to the moon, or what he refers to as the ‘Endless Vearth,’ where he found this really really old robotic army and used his Goro Goro no Mi to revive them. But here’s the thing, a lot of people don’t consider that is his time up there on the moon could have been the perfect training arc, allowing him to level up his abilities and perhaps even unlock something awesome with his Devil Fruit.

With how arrogant and proud he is, you know Enel has a bone to pick with Luffy, and after years of buffing up his abilities, he could be about to become one of the biggest threats the Straw Hats have ever had to face. Meanwhile, hints at Enel’s return have been subtly incorporated into the One Piece story before as well.

The most plausible of these foreshadowing moments is possibly one that dates back to the conversation between Franky and Dr. Vegapunk’s assistant, Ripley. While discussing the history of one branch of the fabled Jewel Tree Adam, which previously existed in a colossal city before it was destroyed by a lightning bolt that reduced it to ashes, the most important thing to remember is that Elbaf’s greatest weakness is fire and lightning.

With Oda’s masterful storytelling, it’s far too coincidental that Elbaf’s historical downfall revolved around lightning at its center. If this isn’t setting up Enel’s return, then what is? With the giants likely playing a central role in the endgame, Enel’s return would be a major obstacle for Luffy and the Straw Hats.

The battle for Elbaf: Luffy vs. Enel 2.0 in One Piece

In order to make Enel a credible threat to post-time-skip Luffy, Eiichiro Oda‘s gotta give him a crazy power boost. The easiest way to do that is with Devil Fruit Awakening. If Enel has awakened his Goro Goro no Mi, he could simply turn all of the things around him into raw lightning, move faster than light, or even control electromagnetic forces like a pro.

His awakening might allow him to control storms, create massive electrical constructs, or even disrupt the very fabric of reality. Other than his Devil Fruit, Enel’s greatest weakness was always his lack of Haki usage. However, after all those years of solitude, he could have possibly developed Observation Haki on a level much higher than we saw in Skypiea.

If he also gained Armament Haki, he could now pierce through Luffy’s rubber defenses, and he would be a much more formidable opponent than he was before. However, if Enel does return to Elbaf, his fight with Luffy would be one of the best transcendent battles in the history of One Piece.

With Luffy’s Gear 5 powers, he could deflect Enel’s lightning right back at him, his toon-like abilities able to warp the very nature of Enel’s attacks. But if Enel’s power-up is immense, he would be Luffy’s most challenging opponent to date. Their rematch would serve as a symbolic battle for the future of the world, with Elbaf caught in the middle.

Since Elbaf is vulnerable to lightning and fire, Enel appearing on the scene would completely destroy the island. But one thing’s certain, Luffy’s never going to bow down to some false god. When the time arrives, JoyBoy is going to fight God Enel once more, and this time it’ll shake the very heavens.
