Elizabeth Olsen: “Clearly, these women just need to watch p*rn” on Why She Wasn’t Interested in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ With Henry Cavill

Elizabeth Olsen had no time for Fifty Shades of Grey, even with Henry Cavill in the mix. Back when Hollywood was buzzing about the steamy adaptation, she shut down any talk of joining the franchise in the quirkiest way possible. While some actresses saw it as a career move, Olsen saw it as, well, unnecessary.

The casting rumors flew, the internet speculated, but Olsen shrugged it all off like it was just another Tuesday.

Elizabeth Olsen didn’t want Fifty Shades, and Henry Cavill just played along

Elizabeth Olsen had zero interest in stepping into the world of Fifty Shades of Grey, even with Henry Cavill. The 36-year-old made it clear she wasn’t chasing a role in the steamy franchise, though she did acknowledge its wild impact.

When asked if she’d want to be a part of the film, she straight up declined. While she didn’t knock the trilogy’s appeal, she just found the hype fascinating. Olsen told Bullett:

No, no, no! But it’s had a huge impact on society. Apparently rope sales have skyrocketed because women who’ve read the book are really getting into bondage, which is kind of great.

It’s such a taboo for women to actually discuss sexuality without the help of Cosmopolitan. All of a sudden, this book has become a sensation because the women reading it haven’t had access to this kind of thing before.

She continued,

I was talking to a guy who was making a joke about it, saying, ‘Clearly, these women just need to watch p*rn’. In a way, he’s right.

Meanwhile, Cavill had his own Fifty Shades drama, except his involved trolling the internet. Fans had been convinced he was set to play Jack Hyde in Fifty Shades Darker. He played along, teasing in an interview with E! News:

Basically what I can say is I can’t say anything about it right now.

Then came the twist: Cavill admitted he was just messing with everyone. He told USA TODAY:

I’m not in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’ I’m for real. I’m just messing with everyone.

As for Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, their careers took a hit. The franchise made them household names but didn’t exactly open Hollywood’s best doors. Johnson struggled to land major roles, while Dornan had to fight to shake off his Christian Grey image.

Elizabeth Olsen dodged that bullet. She stuck to roles that showcased her talent rather than shock factor. And as for Fifty Shades? A cultural moment, sure, but not everyone wanted in.

Henry Cavill might be trading his Superman cape for something a little more Marvel-ous. Rumors have been swirling about Cavill stepping into the MCU, with fans rallying behind one iconic role: Captain Britain.

Best known for Man of Steel and The Witcher, Cavill has reportedly been in talks with Marvel Studios. And let’s just say, fans are ready. Over on r/Avengers, one user declared, “I am a big fan of the casting of Cavill as Capt. Britain.”

With Cavill’s DC exit and the MCU’s evolving lineup, this move could be legendary. Now, fans are just waiting for Marvel to make it official.
