The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for an epic showdown as the Russo Brothers are busy prepping up for Avengers 5 and 6. The conclusion to Marvel’s long-running multiverse saga, both films will be some of the biggest cinematic events in the franchise, even bigger than the blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Naturally, their runtimes are going to be more than an average film.

After the directing duo recently revealed the potential runtimes of both films, Marvel fans have been campaigning for their runtimes to be increased. While we do not know whether or not Marvel will pay heed to fans’ demands, it sure does expose fans’ hypocrisy concerning Zack Snyder.
Avengers 5 and 6 runtimes revealed by the Russo Brothers
While Avengers 5, titled Avengers: Doomsday, will introduce Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and set the stage for one of the biggest Marvel comics events of all time, Avengers 6, or Avengers: Secret Wars, will feature the said event. A multiversal event involving multiple characters, timelines, and more, it makes sense for Secret Wars to have a long runtime.
During a recent interview with Collider‘s Steve Weintraub for their upcoming film The Electric State, the Russo Brothers shared some details about their Marvel projects. While they teased that RDJ-starrer Doomsday will feature a ‘radical’ storyline that will also involve the new Fantastic Four— Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon-Moss Bachrach— they also revealed the potential runtimes of the two highly-anticipated films.
“If I were a betting man, I would say the first one is two and a half, and the second one’s three hours,” stated the Russos. While the two films aren’t aiming to be a repeat of Infinity War or Endgame, their runtimes are pretty similar to the two films. Currently, Avengers: Endgame is the longest film to date, with a total runtime of 182 minutes or 3 hours.
Marvel fans react to Avengers 5 & 6’s runtime, showcasing their hypocrisy
Marvel fans have often criticized filmmaker Zack Snyder for the long runtime of his films. One of his biggest movies was his cut of Justice League, which was a whopping 242 minutes long. Upon its release, there were a lot of fans who disliked the film’s long runtime, claiming that his films felt unnecessarily dragged out and tedious to watch.
However, when the Russo Brothers revealed the runtime of Avengers 5 and 6, fans have been asking Marvel to increase the runtime.
Well, while fans are asking for a longer runtime, only time will tell how long both movies will be. As for the hypocrisy part, one also needs to acknowledge that Doomsday and Secret Wars are largely different movies than Zack Snyder’s DC flicks. Given the weight they carry and the many divulging storylines they will have to wrap up, it makes sense that Marvel fans would want them to be longer than an average film.
Avengers 5 will hit theatres on May 1, 2026, and Avengers 6 will release on May 7, 2027.
