Police claim crooks ‘stole thousands of pounds’ from a Scots businessman ‘murdered’ in Kenya

COPS claim crooks stole thousands of pounds from a Scots businessman in Kenya after they murdered him.

Detectives believe Campbell Scott, 58, was lured to his death and had his mobile phone and credit and debit cards taken by his killers.

They’ve alleged that around 2million Kenyan Shillings were drained from his accounts after his death. This is about £12,000.

Officers revealed they followed the money trail and it led them to suspects Alex Mutua Kithuka and Albunus Mutinda Nzioki.

The pair were arrested at the weekend in Mombasa, about 300 miles from Nairobi, where Campbell was last seen.

A massive search was launched for Mutua, who is believed to be the mystery man caught on CCTV with the Scot on the day he vanished.

In paperwork filed with a court, detectives said: “Preliminary investigations have revealed that the deceased person was taken to Pipeline estate at a house belonging to Mr Mutua.

“It’s believed the deceased was murdered there and his body disposed of in Makongo forest.”

The court was told that officers were led to Mutua’s home by the taxi driver who dropped Campbell off there.

But it emerged that when cops raided the apartment they found it completely empty.

A prosecutor said: “The suspect Mututa is believed to have removed the body of Campbell and transported it to an unknown place while he was moving his household goods and belongings from his Pipeline residence.”

Mutua is alleged to have gone on the run and made repeated withdrawals from Campbell’s accounts.

Police admitted they are still trying to track down Campbell’s mobile and bank cards.

They said they are also still hunting other suspects as they try to establish exactly what happened to Campbell.

Mutua and Mutinda are now behind bars for 21 days as they assist police with their probe. They face charges relating to murder, kidnapping and theft.

Campbell was a director with credit scoring firm FICO and flew into Nairobi for a conference before he vanished.

His body was dumped in a secluded spot 60 miles away from the city and his hands and legs were bound with rope.

Local media said pathologists ruled the injuries he suffered were too minor to cause death.

And it was claimed they were probing a theory that he may have died after taking a “performance enhancing drug”. They are now carrying out toxicology tests.
