Hedgerow in Plymouth Market will close at the end of March, along with its pop-up cafes which the team take to festivals.
Jess and Andrew ‘Tom’ Thompson and their daughter Lily, broke the news to gutted customers on social media.
“It is with heavy hearts that we have to let you all know that as a team we have decided it is time for change, and with that we have to announce that Hedgerow will close as of the end of March 2025.
“Since starting Hedgerow back in 2019, we have had quite the journey! It is mind boggling how many of you we have managed to share our love for food with,” they wrote.
Looking back over the past six years fondly, the team said how they delivered dinners during lockdown and were even filmed for a documentary.
Hedgerow also catered for festivals, weddings and film premieres.
“The community and family we have surrounded ourselves with have been nothing short of incredible, we can’t thank you all enough for your support, generosity and love as we grew our little dream over the years,” they continued.
They thanked their loyal customers and urged people to continue to support independent businesses.
“Most importantly, keep supporting small! Your little independents need you now more than ever,” they said.
Sophie, a body positive influencer, wrote: “Ahhh this is heartbreaking!!! So proud of everything you guys have achieved!! And thanks for making our wedding epic!! Xxxxx”
Another asked if they could release a cookbook, and the Hedgerow team answered with some very exciting news.
“Keep an eye out this may be happening!” they replied.
A third shared their heartbreak: “This is soo sad to hear you guys are a rare breed of kindness & kick ass food.”
Several others emplored the team to work on a cookbook: “Noooo saddest news ever…Hedgerow cookbook so your amazing food can live on in our kitchens forever?”
The Hedgerow team told Plymouth Live: “As much as we are closing this chapter in our lives, we hope Hedgerow can live on in other ways in the future.
“We are considering writing up some of our family recipes into a cookbook – something highly requested by people over the years.”
The business scooped gongs at the Taste of the West awards after its vegan pasty was given a gold award in 2023.
They won a Peta’s Vegan Food award too for their incredible VG poached egg.
It started life at The Clipper community hub and then moved to Devonport Market Hall before opening at Plymouth Market in 2023.
