The reason for their breakup was never revealed, although fans noticed that Cole Sillinger deleted all of his Instagram pictures with Tate McRae. At the time, the speculation on why they separated was allegedly cheating.
An Instagram meme account posted a collage of Sillinger and McRae with notes that said: “Step 1: Be Cole Sillinger. Step 2: Date out of your league (literally). Step 3: Cheat on her, jumpstarting her career. Step 4: She gets invited to the NHL All-Star game before you.” Whoever made the post clearly accused the athlete of infidelity during the course of his relationship with the Greedy singer.
Additionally, the user mocked Sillinger and wrote in the caption: “Potentially the greatest fumble of a female in human history”—an emphasis on how he allegedly wasted a beautiful woman. Interestingly, her breakup with him did wonders for her career. Many of her songs and music videos were inspired by her split with the hockey player.
One of her most popular music videos released in late 2023 was set in a hockey rink.
