Shamrock Rovers have fired back after Liam Burt’s social media outburst as they dismiss his claims

SHAMROCK ROVERS have hit back at Liam Burt’s social media claim.

The Dublin club branded them “false and inaccurate” after the former player criticised the club’s handling of his injury and contract termination.

Shamrock Rovers issued a statement about the post from their former player

The ex-Rangers and Celtic midfielder accused Rovers of mishandling his injury and questioned the nature of his “mutual” contract cancellation in a now deleted social media post.

Burt spent last season on loan to Shels from Rovers, having joined from Bohemians a year earlier.

The Hoops announced last weekend that his contract had been terminated.

Burt highlighted a breakdown in communication as a major issue, sharing screenshots of messages he sent to Rovers’ coaching staff about his future once his loan spell at Shelbourne ended last season.

But Rovers boss Stephen Bradley dismissed the controversy when asked about Burt’s comments following his side’s draw with Shelbourne on Friday night.

He brushed off the words by saying it’s no longer their issues.

Bradley said: “We wish him the best.

“Hopefully, he gets over his injury and kicks on and has a good career. He’s done well here. He’s won a league here. He should be happy. Move on and the best of luck with your career.”

Shelbourne manager Damien Duff was also asked about the situation after the 1-1 draw at Tolka Park but played down the controversy after the player was on loan at Tolka Park last season.

The former Ireland star said: “It doesn’t involve me, so I don’t really care, to be brutally honest. Liam loved it here.

“He played a big part in us winning the title, especially in the run-in during the last two or three games. He scored a big goal against Waterford.”

Shamrock Rovers also issued an official statement refuting Burt’s claims, stating.

It read: “Prior to the recent mutual cancellation of the player’s contract, Liam underwent surgery on an injury picked up whilst playing on loan at Shelbourne in 2024.

“The surgery was performed in the UK by a leading specialist at the cost and expense of Shamrock Rovers.”

The club also described Burt’s social media messages as “highly inappropriate” and welcomed his decision to delete the post.
