Monster Hunter Wilds Is Proof That GTA 6 Should Not Give In to Sony’s Greed

With GTA 6’s release date being closer than ever, fans are flipping out to get their hands on the best open-world game in the entire gaming industry. The Grand Theft Auto franchise developed by Rockstar games has featured some of the best stories and gameplay mechanics that even overshadows a lot of new video games in the market.

While the fans are excited for the upcoming game, their excitement’s life span is sort of coming to an end because, allegedly, GTA 6 will probably be released exclusively for PlayStation consoles only. Let’s delve deeper into this.

Sony allegedly bought exclusive marketing rights for GTA 6

Grand Theft Auto 6 or GTA 6 will apparently release in the fall of 2025, and with the enthusiasm, fans of the upcoming game have also brought in some rumors. One of these rumors suggests that Sony Interactive Entertainment has secured exclusive marketing rights for GTA 6. However, this does not seem that surprising, considering how Sony and Rockstar go a long way back.

The marketing rights for the upcoming Rockstar title gives Sony the sole control over marketing the game, and accordingly market their own console, possibly a newer one. The marketing rights also give Sony the ability to make the game exclusive to their own console, which is just straight-up villainous.

Gamers have been getting hyped for Grand Theft Auto 6 since the last decade, and by gamers, we mean all the gamers, that includes PC as well as console players. Knowing Sony, if they actually get the rights to the upcoming game, they will make it exclusive to their console, probably for years, before PC or Xbox players actually get their hands on the game.

Grand Theft Auto’s potential far exceeds any exclusivity, the game has been pumped up for so long that releasing it for just one console will be nothing less than a sin. On the other hand, Capcom, who released Monster Hunter: Wilds recently on February 28, has launched the game for all gaming systems, and their sales have skyrocketed.

Monster Hunter: Wilds has broken all Capcom records, with probably more than 5 million units sold within the first 6 hours, and is currently averaging more than a million players per day. The game has catapulted to Steam’s top ten and has even defeated Valve’s own game Dota 2 in concurrent player numbers.

There is a chance of Sony actually pulling this off

We know that GTA 6 is no Monster Hunter game, but if Monster Hunter: Wilds is breaking their company records, imagine what records GTA 6 will break if the game gets released on all gaming systems around the world. The title would probably break all sales records in history and will achieve the highest number of downloads in a single day.

Although the marketing deal from Sony is just speculation, there is a horrifyingly good chance that the rumor actually might come true. It is not a bad time for Sony to actually make a prominent move like this, considering the steps Microsoft is taking for the betterment of their own console.

While we are still uncertain whether this rumor will come true or not, one thing we are sure of is Sony will break millions of hearts if they decide to pull it off.
