Kevin Feige Confirmed MCU Top Dogs Have a Long-Standing “Tradition” Since Iron Man, Fantastic Four: First Steps Is No Exception

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is at the brink of conclusion as it will soon be entering its sixth phase in the multiverse saga, which is expected to serve as a soft reboot for the lore, potentially re-arranging the established MCU timeline and character dynamics to a significant degree. But throughout all of that, the masterminds have followed a long-lived tradition, as Kevin Feige confirmed.

For one, ever since the first movie from the franchise – Iron Man – the Marvel top dogs have had a long-standing tradition that they have been following to the tee, and the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps is expected to be no exception to this rule. And as iconic as this tradition is, it also is nothing short of heartwarming as well, especially for the Marvel fandom out there.

Kevin Feige revealed MCU’s top dogs’ long-standing tradition

Over the years, Kevin Feige has done a lot to make sure the superhero flicks made under his supervision by the Marvel Studios were nothing short of iconic and ones that fans just couldn’t get enough of. But that wasn’t the only thing he did for fans, for there has also been a long-standing tradition that the top dogs behind the franchise have been following for years.

As Feige confessed himself, this tradition was that all the brainboxes involved in the making of the masterpieces would make sure to watch an opening night show of the respective movie with fans to get a first-hand experience of just how much it all means to them. This revelation came during an interview with Variety, when the 51-year-old revealed:

We’ve had a tradition at Marvel Studios that started with the very first ‘Iron Man.’ For every new release, the cast, producers, director, and I will drop in on an opening night showing and watch the movie with the fans. Feeling the excitement in the theater, hearing cheers or gasps from the audience, is always a reminder of what these movies and characters mean to fans.

While this revelation came out back in 2023, Feige didn’t hesitate to also confess the one moment he would never forget: “Being there on opening night of ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ hearing the crowds, is something I’ll never forget. Also, the feedback we received after ‘Black Panther’ came out. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would have the kind of impact it did.

Of course, getting a first-hand experience of how the audience reacted to the works made under his supervision must have been nothing short of truly heartwarming for the president of Marvel Studios. And since this tradition has been going strong since the very first film from the MCU, i.e. Iron Man, it might as well be followed down till Fantastic Four: First Steps as well.

Kevin Feige feels the MCU has “barely scratched the surface”

Since the release of Iron Man back in 2008, which kickstarted the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Phase One of the Infinity Saga, the MCU has released a lot of flicks, many of which turned out to be masterpieces while many others unfortunately turned out to be disappointments. But all of them have worked tirelessly to bring those comic book characters to life.

However, even after the release of so many pieces introducing so many characters, Kevin Feige feels a lot more is to be done. As he continued during the interview, “The great thing about Marvel truly is how many wonderful, interesting characters we have in the comics — they’ve been at it for 85 years. Even after 32 movies, it feels like we’ve barely scratched the surface.”

All in all, the MCU’s tradition of watching opening night shows with fans is a heartwarming reminder of the impact these movies have on audiences. By experiencing the audience’s reaction firsthand, Feige and the Marvel Studios team are able to connect with fans on a deeper level and understand what makes these movies so special. As the saga continues to evolve, it’s clear that this tradition will remain an essential part of their connection with fans.
