Harrods eatery serves up pie and mash – but East End classic comes with posh twist and staggering price tag

HARRODS is selling pie and mash — for a stomach-churning £120.

The East End staple is rebranded as a posh Georgian Pie Experience on the other side of the capital.

A lamb pie for two costs £90, while portions of mash — listed as pomme puree — are £8 each at the luxury department store in Knightsbridge, West London.

Diners at the Georgian — one of Harrodsrestaurants — also pay 12.5 per cent service, and a £1 a person cover charge, to nudge the bill over the £120 mark.

The sky-high price would leave East Londoners — such as former England football captain David Beckham — choking on their beloved dish.

Becks’ favourite eaterie, Tony’s Pie & Mash shop in Waltham Abbey charges £7.55 for two pies, two mash and liquor.

A single pie and mash, with gravy or liquor, costs just £4.30 — and there are no extra charges.

Shopper Dawn Sinclair said it was “a national scandal”.

She added: I suppose Harrods is targeting wealthy holidaymakers who know no better.

“But they should be told that just 18 miles up the road they can make a £112.45 saving.”
