While The First Descendant Leans Hard on a Warframe Feature Destiny 2 Proves Some Ideas Are Better Left Behind

The First Descendant’s been having a decent run in the market ever since its release back in July 2024. Nexon has been focusing on keeping the game’s player community intact by paying attention to the feedback and incorporating things that players have been demanding.

The First Descendant builds upon the groundwork laid down by similar games like Warframe and Destiny 2. With the release of its second season, Nexon has introduced a feature made famous by Warframe; however, it would have been better to leave it behind.

The First Descendant does not need this one Warframe feature

Pets have always played a significant role in grinding in Warframe. They act as great companions, and each one has a separate identity with unique abilities and other perks. This companion allows players to move through the map with the help of a pet and strategize things according to their pet’s current build.

Similarly, a dog has been introduced in The First Descendant as well. This dog helps in securing loot drops in the game. Similarly, it can also dismantle items that don’t fit your needs. This is just a faster way to secure loot in the game.

Destiny 2 also had a similar feature, but instead of making it an asset, the pet was more of a cosmetic item restricted to the towers and could be interacted with. In hindsight, that might have been the right decision.

Developers are often at risk of increasing the power creep within a game by including features that do not fit well with some of the already present ones. This further creates a massive imbalance within the game, which is never good for any multiplayer game. The pets work well with a grindy game like Warframe, but it does not seem to be doing much for players in The First Descendant

The First Descendant should find its own identity

Pets work well within a game like Warframe since they act as a strategic tool more than anything else. Players need to adjust things according to the pet build they decide to go with. It is an integral part of the gameplay.

The First Descendant, irrespective of its similarities with Warframe, is a different game and cannot simply rely on the same features as the latter. Nexon needs to come up with things that reduce the power creep and help in the grind rather than creating more huddles.

It is important for a live-service game to keep coming up with updates, including new features; however, it is more important for it to find its own identity and build upon that more than anything else. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below.
