Veterans Ring of Honor Brick Installation Set to Begin at Chico High School

CHICO, Calif. — The installation of engraved bricks at The Veterans Ring of Honor monument at Chico High School is expected to proceed in about a month, according to project manager Tim O’Connell. The delay in this phase of the project is due to the bricks not meeting the required height to align with the surrounding sidewalk.

O’Connell explained that adjustments are needed to ensure the bricks are level with the sidewalk, thereby preventing any potential tripping hazards. “We’re going to bring some concrete in and bring it to the right level, so there’s not a lip and people won’t trip and break their ankles,” he stated. Following this adjustment, a bricklayer will handle the installation.

Currently, around 250 engraved bricks, purchased for a $125 donation each and engraved with the names of veterans, are stored in a warehouse awaiting installation. O’Connell has reported receiving numerous inquiries from donors about the timeline for laying the bricks.

The monument site has the capacity to hold approximately 2,000 bricks. Those interested in purchasing a brick to honor a veteran or in contributing time or resources to the project can find more information online.
