“The anime is a very different medium”: ‘The Beginning After the End’ Might Not Be as Loyal to the Manhwa as Fans Want

The Beginning After the End’s anime premiere is drawing closer, and fans are experiencing a mix of excitement and concern. Whether their favorite manhwa would get the treatment it deserves? Will the animation be worth the hype? And, many other questions are boiling up in the fandom.

In a recent interview during the IGN Fest, the creator of The Beginning After the End, TurtleMe, shared his views on the upcoming anime adaptation. His words both reassure fans while making room for more questions. So, here’s what TurtleMe had to say about the anime.

The Beginning After the End anime is scheduled for an April 2025 release. So far, two trailers have been released. The second trailer was an extended version of the first one with dialogue. Fans have been curious about how the animation studio will approach the anime. During an IGN Fest interview, TurtleMe touched upon these questions and hinted at what the anime might look like.

With this interview, the first minute of the episode was also revealed, and it failed to instill confidence among fans. The animation studio is infamous for mediocre anime adaptations and was a major cause of concern for fans. The trailer further exacerbated these concerns. Fans want the best for their favorite series, and understandably so.

However, their expectations initially were quite high, considering the extensive world-building and compelling narrative of The Beginning After the End. TurtleMe seems to understand that the anime will not be an exact copy of the manhwa or the light novel. He said:

The anime is a very different medium compared to the comic and the novel.

He further stated how the director was the expert, and the way in which the story is told will depend on him and the new medium. So far, the track record of the anime has been far from positive.

The Beginning After the End deserves nothing but the best

Usually, it can be a good thing for the anime not to be an exact adaptation of the source material. Solo Leveling is a great example of how a different approach can help elevate the overall experience. However, Solo Leveling has the advantage of spectacular animation, which The Beginning After the End seems to lack at this point.

Aside from the animation, whether the makers are following the novel or the manhwa can also affect the experience. While the manhwa is great visually, certain aspects of the story are more drawn out in the light novel. The best approach would be to follow the manhwa with some additions from the light novel. While the animation seems like a lost cause, hopefully, we get something good out of the anime.

The Beginning After the End anime will be released in April 2025 and the manhwa is available to read on Tapas.
