Actor Patrick Stewart is best known for playing the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. In 2020, the veteran actor appeared alongside Star Wars legend Mark Hamill in a promotional campaign for Uber Eats that shined the spotlight on two of the most influential sci-fi franchises of all time.

While discussing their work for the campaign, Stewart discussed how Star Trek and Star Wars had impacted the sci-fi genre over multiple decades. At the same time, Stewart also revealed that some ideas for the two properties to cross over had floated around in the past. Here is what Stewart had to say about a potential Star Wars and Star Trek crossover.

Patrick Stewart admits a Star Trek and Star Wars crossover has been floated around

Patrick Stewart appeared as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the sci-fi series Star Trek: The Next Generation. He later reprised the role for several film continuations and the revival streaming series, Picard. Stewart talked about his work on the sci-fi franchise in an interview with Men’s Journal.

During the interview, Stewart discussed the influence of Star Trek and Star Wars, admitting that he has always been fascinated by the idea of the two properties crossing over in some way or form.

There have been a lot of ideas thrown about on putting together two iconic universes, and having all of these great characters coming into contact. I would personally get such a kick out of that.

The X-Men franchise actor made the above statement, expressing a keen interest in seeing characters from the Starfleet interact with the inhabitants of the galaxy far, far away.

Despite Stewart’s suggestion that crossover ideas had been discussed, nothing concrete has materialized from these conversations. The closest the two franchises have to uniting was the 2020 Uber Eats promotional campaign, which brought Stewart and actor Mark Hamill together.

In the same interview, Stewart was asked about his thoughts on a potential meet-up between Picard and Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker. In response, Stewart revealed how his character would respond to coming across the Jedi Knight in a fictional interaction between the two icons.

I would think that Picard would want Skywalker on his crew, but would be sure to keep a careful eye on him. Because he has a few personality traits that Picard might want to keep tabs on.

Stewart made the above statement, implying that Picard’s skepticism and reluctance to easily trust others would also carry over to his meeting with Luke Skywalker.

Meanwhile, Hamill felt that Luke would respect Picard if the two characters crossed paths. At the same time, he revealed that Luke would most likely be blown away by the level of organization within Starfleet, given how unorganized the Rebel Alliance was. Therefore, it is safe to say that both actors had given some thought to a potential crossover between the two characters.
