Lawyers for Gifty Oware Mensah, the former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), have denied reports suggesting that she has been invited by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in connection with investigations into alleged financial irregularities within the National Service Scheme (NSS).
In a statement issued on Friday, 28 February 2025, and copied to Mynewsgh.com, her legal representatives, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners, stated that their client has not been contacted by the NIB or any other investigative body regarding the matter.
“Our client further wishes to put on record that she has not received any invitation from your organisation or any other security/investigative agency in Ghana for that matter concerning the aforementioned subject, and therefore the claims that she has absconded are unfounded,” the statement read.
The clarification follows social media allegations that Oware Mensah had fled the country to avoid questioning after the arrest of former NSA Deputy Executive Director, Kwaku Ohene Djan. However, her lawyers insist she remains in Ghana and has no intention of relocating abroad.
They further stressed that Oware Mensah is willing to cooperate with any state agency should her involvement be required, urging authorities to contact her directly or reach out through her legal representatives.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) payroll scandal, uncovered by investigative journalists from The Fourth Estate, revealed the existence of thousands of fraudulent names linked to fake student index numbers, leading to an alleged loss of GH¢2.2 billion.
As investigations continue, Oware Mensah’s legal team has urged the public to disregard false reports and allow due process to take its course.
