‘Invincible’ Season 3 Shatters Marvel and DC’s Boundaries With One Disturbing Move Even ‘The Boys’ Didn’t Dare To Do

The world of superheroes is filled with various genres trying to outshine one another. But over the years, such shows have become more intense and darker. However, Invincible Season 3 will always reign supreme when it comes to delivering the most emotional and brutal sequences.

This becomes even more interesting considering that not even The Boys, known for its extreme and violent moments, has attempted it. Let’s dive deeper to understand what that is and how Invincible shattered both Marvel and DC’s boundaries with this.

Invincible does something that not even The Boys dared to do

The superhero genre has always experimented with dark themes and narratives, but Invincible has taken things up a notch. In its third season, the show crossed a major line that not even The Boys ever dared to attempt. In Episode 6, the show presented a chilling and unsettling moment in which a baby is killed on screen.

This happens when the super-powered villain Powerplex stages a kidnapping to seek revenge against Mark Grayson, aka Invincible. Blinded by immense rage and grief, the villain releases a massive surge of electricity, instantly killing his own wife and child. The sequence is so sudden that the people closest to him do not even get a chance to escape.

Interestingly, his rage stems from his desire to avenge his sister and niece’s deaths, yet in the process, he ends up killing his own family. On the same subject, The Boys also explored a similar storyline but never went as far as to kill a baby on screen. For instance, in one scene, Homelander threatens a baby, but in the end, the child survives.

This obviously makes fans wonder what actually went on behind the entire sequence. Even for a show as wild and brutal as The Boys, the creators never took things this far. Additionally, the fact that the baby had no part in Powerplex’s revenge plan makes these two deaths even more emotional.

But with this one sequence, the show has firmly established that it is unlike any other superhero series out there.

Anthony Starr doesn’t like when people compare him to his role Homelander

In Hollywood, actors often become deeply associated with the characters they play on screen. From Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man to Henry Cavill as Superman, these actors had to put in a lot of effort to break this mold. The same happened with actor Antony Starr, who portrayed the brutal and narcissistic Homelander in The Boys.

The actor is completely different in real life, but fans often confuse his personality with that of his character, which he obviously doesn’t like. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he mentioned that his fans often get “shocked” when they meet him in real life, realizing he is nothing like they had imagined.

They usually end up saying, “Oh, my God, you’re not like him,” to which the actor responds, “Yeah, he’s a psychopathic narcissist. So yeah, thanks.”

Starr understands the impact his character has had on the public, but he does get frustrated with all the comparisons. However, it is the sheer realism he brought to the role that has made fans confuse his real personality with that of Homelander.
