A strong language movement has started in India. In many places Hindi writings are being erased, and anti-Hindi slogans are increasing. People are protesting against the forced imposition of Hindi.

Tamil Nadu has always opposed speaking and writing in Hindi. Now, the BJP government, led by Narendra Modi, has made learning Hindi mandatory along with Tamil and English. This has angered the people of Tamil Nadu. Calling it “Hindi aggression,” Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister has firmly stated that the three-language policy will not accepted. Analysts believe this situation poses a major threat to India’s unity.
Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, has accused the central government of trying to impose Hindi forcefully. He also warned that if this continues, another language war might erupt. He announced an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss the issue, including the matter of Lok Sabha constituency boundaries. This news reported by India Today on Tuesday night.
According to Indian media, after a cabinet meeting at Chennai Secretariat, Chief Minister Stalin spoke to journalists.
When asked if the central government’s actions could lead to a new language conflict, he responded, “Yes, definitely. They prepared for a language war.” Tamil Nadu’s ruling party, DMK, has taken a strong stance against the three-language policy.
DMK leaders have stated that Tamil Nadu satisfied with Tamil and English only. The central government’s attempt to force students in Tamil Nadu to learn three languages has raised serious concerns.
CM Stalin accused the central government of trying to spread Hindi dominance. He reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu is ready to fight against this. He stated that Tamil students will learn Tamil and English, but the BJP-led central government is forcing Hindi upon them.
A similar attempt made in 1965 when Hindi proposed as the national language. Tamil Nadu and DMK strongly protested back then.
Referring to that historical struggle, Stalin said that just as Tamils resisted Hindi in 1965, they will fight against this new form of Hindi imposition if necessary.
