Netflix is all ready to air the Devil May Cry reboot in April. As a longtime popular game, and an anime to precede it, the hype around the upcoming show has been off the charts.

Consequently, curiosity about which voice actors are going to voice such iconic and beloved characters has built as well. Now, as the franchise has been there for a long time, with multiple interpretations out there, the choice should have been relatively easy.
However, that seems to be exactly where Netflix has erred big time. Although the jury is still out, fans seem to be finding it hard to understand the choice of a voice actor that would lead the show for all intents and purposes.
Netflix’s Devil May Cry racks up worry in the fandom after a recent announcement
As stated above, the Devil May Cry franchise has been out there for decades now. With anime content, just as much as the popular games. Inevitably, when Netflix announced their plan to reboot the beloved franchise, fans were over the moon with excitement.

Admittedly, that excitement has only grown with time as more details about the upcoming show have been revealed slowly. That is, until the first clip from the series made it online with fans witnessing an iconic voice actor behind the protagonist’s voice.
Although this should have pleased the fandom to no end, the reception has been less than enthusiastic. The reason behind that is Johnny Yong Bosch, who is slated to voice the show’s protagonist Dante, has been a part of the Devil May Cry cast for years. However, as the voice of Nero in the games.
As such, the sudden shift to another character for an already well established voice actor in the franchise is turning into quite a hard adjustment in the fandom. Although Bosch’s voice acting is just as stellar as always, many fans are finding it ill-fitting after being adjusted to him voicing Nero for years.
Fans find it strange to hear Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante
As stated above, Netflix’s Devil May Cry reboot has attracted many old and new fans to the franchise. The exclusive first glimpse of the upcoming anime, which made it online in light of the IGN Fan Fest, has only added to their excitement.

In the clip, Dante can be seen fighting with some demons in an alley with his signature dual pistols. Interestingly, for as much excitement as this glimpse has provided fans, the first clip of Johnny Yong Bosch voicing Dante has put a little damper on that.
While many fans have asserted that, “This will be a banger,” a few have noted their discontent with the choice as well. Mostly because long time fans of the franchise seem to find it “strange”.
A few fans on the other hand also commented on the animation stating it looks “clean,” while others expressed their worry about Netflix doing justice to the beloved protagonist.

While fans mostly seem excited about the upcoming Devil May Cry anime, the issue of the voice actors has garnered some mixed reviews. At any rate, no other details about the show, especially about the voice actors, are yet available for fans.
As a result, fans are hoping that the other voice actors would be easier to adjust to. Moreover, they are also hopeful that by the time the show airs, Johnny Yong Bosch would more than justify his shift from Nero to Dante in the franchise.
Devil May Cry airs on Netflix on April 3rd, 2024.
