KNUST investigates tragic death of final-year student

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has initiated a full-scale investigation following the heartbreaking death of Miss Joana Deladem Yabani, a fourth-year Biological Sciences student.

Her lifeless body was discovered near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre in the early hours of February 27, 2025.

According to an official statement issued by the university, security personnel received a distressing report at approximately 5:00 a.m. about the presence of a female body on campus.

“The body was promptly transported to the University Health Services, where she was confirmed dead,” the statement read.

The university has since informed Miss Yabani’s family and extended its deepest condolences during this difficult time.

In response to the incident, KNUST management has assured the public that a “comprehensive investigation is underway in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and the University Health Services to determine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.”

The statement, signed by Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, Deputy Registrar of the University Relations Office, further emphasized that “all necessary measures are being taken to ascertain the facts.”
