Huge Netflix star spotted filming new series in Scots housing estate

A HUGE Netflix star has been spotted shooting his hotly-anticipated new series in a Scots housing estate.

Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd swapped the glitz and glamour of Hollywood for the streets of Cumbernauld as he filmed his six-part drama just days after bagging a string of top awards in the US.

Filming for his new BBC six-part drama is now underway in and around Glasgow[/caption]

The Scots actor is in the midst of filming Half Man, a new original series for the BBC and BBC Scotland, alongside co-star Jamie Bell – best known for his iconic role as Billy Elliot in the 1999 hit film.

The pair will play estranged brothers in the gritty new drama.

A synopsis on the BBC’s website reads: “Half Man follows estranged ‘brothers’ Niall (Jamie Bell) and Ruben (Richard Gadd). When Ruben unexpectedly crashes Niall’s wedding, it sparks an explosion of violence that takes viewers on a journey back through their lives.

“Spanning nearly 40 years, from the 1980s to the present day, this ambitious series delves into the highs and lows of their relationship—from their teenage meeting to their eventual fallout as adults—capturing all the good, bad, funny, angry, and challenging moments along the way.

“Half Man will reflect the wild energy of a changing city—and a changing world—while exploring the tough question: What does it mean to be a man?”

Filming is currently underway in and around Glasgow, with Gadd spotted today on set in Cumbernauld.

It will air in 2026 on BBC iPlayer, BBC One and BBC Scotland in the UK, and on HBO in the US.

Donning a black hoodie, cap, sunglasses, and a snood scarf, the Baby Reindeer star appeared camera-shy as he kept his face mostly covered.

It comes just days after Gadd picked up several gongs at the Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica Beach, California, for his hit Netflix show Baby Reindeer.

The Netflix show won three awards including Best Lead Performance in a New Scripted Series for Richard Gadd, Best Supporting Role for Nava Mau and Best Breakthrough Performance for Jessica Gunning.

But the series hasn’t been without controversy.

Baby Reindeer, which claims to be based on the “true story” of Richard Gadd’s stalking ordeal, sparked backlash after armchair detectives speculated real-life Scot Fiona Harvey inspired it.

Netflix later faced a defamation lawsuit from Fiona, who alleged she was wrongly portrayed as the inspiration behind the show’s antagonist.
