Another hot Attack on Titan theory has recently emerged from the community, and it does hold the potential to shake up your entire perspective on the series! For a long time, many people believed that, obviously Mikasa was the second lead after Eren, which no doubt she still is with all that happened at the end of the series.

However, some eagle-eyed fans have also pointed out that there’s a fascinating detail from the anime that suggests Armin might actually be the true protagonist of the series! But what exactly made people come up with such a bold idea? Surely it must be more than just his strategic brilliance and emotional intelligence.
The story was told from Armin’s perspective all along!

While many people already guessed it a long ago, it turns out that Attack on Titan’s story was actually told from Armin’s perspective all along! Even though people had prior suspicion, now we have solid proof thanks to a certain online persona pointing it out.
This may sound like a stretch, but the subject matter here is none other than Eren’s eye color! Apparently, one can easily notice how it kept changing throughout the entire anime series, and this might be because Armin’s memory of them was fading. And if that really is the case, it provides enough evidence for Armin being the main character of the series.
Now if one thinks enough, they’d realize why this theory does make sense, especially if you consider Isayama’s storytelling style. However, there are some counterarguments to consider as well. Rather than making Armin the main character, the anime might have just used the different color coding in Eren’s eyes for a certain narrative purpose.
The eye color was supposed to show Eren from different timelines!

While the Armin theory does make sense, as we all know now how Isayama operates, there’s another theory about Eren’s eye color that’s just as intriguing.
What if the changing eye color was meant to distinguish Eren from different timelines?
The different eye colors could have been subtle hints about which version of Eren was in control at a given time. Future Eren (with deep blue eyes), having had a handle on his entire life’s events, sent memories to Past Eren (with green eye color) to set the stage for how everything would go down. It can be a wild idea, but it also does make sense.
At the end of the day, we can only speculate about the meaning behind Eren’s eye color. Until Isayama himself spills the beans, we’re left to our own theories and imagination. So do you think any of the above theories hold any actual significance or maybe it is related to something completely else, like having multiple Titan shifters and all?
All seasons of Attack on Titan are available to watch on Crunchyroll.
