Alanis Morissette Had to Go to Therapy 5 Days in a Week After Breaking up With Ryan Reynolds

Before Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds had his fair share of serious relationships, some ending in engagement, others straight-up marriage. But it wasn’t until he met The Gossip Girl actress, that things truly went the distance (well, so far so good).

One of his most high-profile romances was with none other than Alanis Morissette. And these two weren’t just dating, they were even engaged in the mid-2000s. Now, old clips of Morissette discussing their bittersweet (mostly bitter) breakup are resurfacing, and let’s just say, the internet is eating it up. Here’s why.

Ryan Reynolds and Alanis Morissette were engaged but had a messy breakup!

Long before Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively became Hollywood’s golden couple, he was in a headline-making romance with Y2K music icon Alanis Morissette. Their love story began in 2002 at Drew Barrymore’s 27th birthday party, according to People, and from that moment on, they were inseparable.

By 2003, the couple was making waves with their red-carpet appearances, industry event cameos, and plenty of PDA. Morissette wasn’t shy about gushing over Reynolds, in interviews.

In June 2004, they took their relationship to the next level and got engaged. But cracks soon began to show, leading to a temporary split. By July 2006, though, they were back together, strolling hand in hand and looking every bit the happy couple.

Unfortunately, their second breakup was final. Less than a year later, after nearly three years of engagement, they officially called it quits. While the exact cause of their split remains a mystery, Morissette turned her heartbreak into art, pouring her emotions into her music, as any great songwriter would.

Alanis Morissette needed therapy five days a week after the breakup with Ryan Reynolds!!

A resurfaced clip from The Howard Stern Show in 2008 is bringing fresh attention to Alanis Morissette’s breakup with Ryan Reynolds, and let’s just say, Stern didn’t hold back. The host, never one to sugarcoat things, outright called Reynolds a “nobody “ and “douchebag” at the time and questioned why Morissette would even bother writing songs about him. He also brought up Reynolds’ quick rebound with Scarlett Johansson, stirring even more drama.

Morissette, however, stood her ground. She made it clear that Flavors of Entanglement, the album she released post-breakup, wasn’t just about Reynolds even though it was a painful breakup, it was about her journey through it all.

When asked if the split influenced her music, she didn’t deny it. Howard also pointed out that the singer went to therapy five days a week after her breakup with Reynolds, she also later revealed that half the songs on her album were about him.

Though she never spilled any other details, fans are now connecting the dots, and the internet is as usual buzzing with theories. To further fuel the fire, another interview of her speaking with Dr. Ramani Durvasala about narcissism (via YouTube) and how it is to be around one. She shared her experience and how she felt that her existence was to serve “their” agenda.

The doctor then explained how some people fake empathy to gain trust, a revelation that sent fans down a rabbit hole. Soon, another interview of Ryan Reynolds for the BUILD Series, resurfaced, where he candidly spoke about showbiz, child actors, and their parents. In that clip, he admitted,

I can fake empathay pretty well, i can pretend I like that kid but honestly shobiz kids are monsters

Of course, he was joking at the time, but looking back, many now feel that joke might have hit a little too close to home.
