The town is the largest resort in Fuerteventura, with lots to offer families, solo travellers, friends and couples.

The lively area combines a lively nightlife with relaxing beach resorts and gorgeous natural wonders.

Some have even said that when it comes to watersports, Corralejo beats Lanzarote.

You can enjoy windsurfing, kitesurfing, diving, fishing and tours to nearby islands from the many beaches.

The top two for wind and kitesurfing include the breezy Flag Beach or Glass Beach.

And even in February, temperatures remain in the 20s – so it’s perfect for taking a break from the Irish weather.

While there, tourists usually flock to the main attraction – Corralejo Natural Park.

This is the perfect place to brighten up your Instagram feed amongst dune-backed beaches and glistening clear water.

This coastal zone measures 2.5km x 10.5km and can be found to the north-east of the island.

Here you can see the largest dune spread of the Canary Islands, while taking in the gorgeous views of the volcanic landscape to the south.

For adventurers, you can climb the 300 metres up the Montaña Roja (Red Mountain) volcano – and at the top enjoy views of Lanzarote and La Graciosa across the water.

The park is also home to endangered wildlife, while nearby Lobos Island is a nature reserve with rare birds.

The former fishing town of Corralejo is dotted with many eateries and bars – a foodie’s dream, with everything from local food and traditional tapas to other foreign cuisine.

Live music is a huge part of the nightlife in Corralejo, and you can enjoy music from different bands and soloists in many places, and even perform some karaoke in one of the many bars.

A pint will set you back just €2.75, making it the perfect place to enjoy a drink in the sun.

The beach-front is the place to be for the late-night scene, with many clubs and bars open until the early hours.

For something different, head to the Music Square by the harbour for a bite to eat or to enjoy some delicious cocktails.

The palm-tree-lined street serves everything from Chinese, Italian and British food to Indian and Tex-Mex, as well as vegetarian and vegan-friendly options.

Family day out

Along the old town’s cobbled streets, you will find an array of traditional Spanish bars and tapas restaurants.

Fuerteventura’s most popular zoo is nearby, and is perfect for a family day out.

Or visit Aqua Family Park, with a range of features including ten-pin bowling, mini golf, waterslides, a wave pool and a play area for the little ones.

There are ferry trips to Lanzarote from Corralejo, which would make the perfect day out.

Ryanair offer direct flights to Fuerteventura from €93 return.

And to get to Corralejo from the airport takes just 45 minutes by car, or there are shuttle buses that take between 65 and 75 minutes.
