Mairead took to Instagram yesterday to share the sad news with her fans.
The 44-year-old shared a gut-wrenching video from her dad’s 85th birthday.
In the clip, Mairead walked over to Robert with a birthday cake before giving him a kiss on the cheek as their loved ones cheered.
Mairead captioned her post: “Two weeks ago, my lovely dad passed away peacefully after a short illness.
“I’m shocked and heartbroken in equal measure.”
The popular presenter explained that she will be taking a break from her podcast, who she hosts with her pal Jenny Kelly, while she grieves.
She said: The podcast will return soon but for now I need a few weeks with my family and sisters to process what has happened and figure out how to live without our gentleman dad and adoring grandad Robert.”
Mairead’s friends and fans flooded the comment section with their condolences.
RTE star Louise Duffy wrote: “Oh Mairead, your wonderful dad. I am heartbroken for you.”
Virgin Media star Anna Daly said: “I’m so sorry to read this Mairead. So sad. My deepest condolences to you all. May your dad rest in peace.”

Amy’s own beloved dad Harold passed away in May 2022 after he sadly lost his battle to Parkinson’s Disease.
‘HOPE THERE’S CAKE’
The Dublin native took to her Instagram last year to share a heart-warming post dedicated to her dad on his birthday.
The mum-of-three posted a sweet throwback snap of herself and her father.
The pair looked happier than ever in the old picture as her dad had his arm wrapped around her.
Amy was wearing a black jacket with a red and black scarf, while Harold was in a black jacket, a red sweatshirt and a black and red scarf.
The RTE star captioned the post saying: “Happy birthday where you are Pops. Hope there’s cake, cigars and a shed load of messin’.”
