Dublin weather today: ‘Nasty’ showers to blast capital before -2C freeze as Met Eireann confirm major ‘sunshine’ switch

DUBLIN looks set to be hit by “nasty” showers that moved across the country from the west this morning.

Temperatures in the capital look set to plunge over the next couple of days – but Met Eireann has confirmed a welcome change in the forecast later on this week.

High pressure building near Ireland will bring “a good deal of dry weather” after the country is battered by showers today.

Met Eireann said today will be a “largely bright and breezy” day with “sunshine” and scattered cloud.

However, the weather boffins warned that isolated showers look set to develop in Dublin through the afternoon as temperatures max out between 7C and 9C in fresh to strong west to northwest winds.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather said: “A lovely sunrise over Carlow but some nasty showers in the West moving in.”

The forecasters confirmed that showers will ease in the capital tonight with clear spells developing.

And Met Eireann added: “A cold night with lowest temperatures of 0C to 2C, as westerly winds fall light over land.”

The weather chiefs said tomorrow looks set to be a “bright and fresh” day with “plenty of sunshine” and temperatures reaching their highest between 7C and 10C.

And it doesn’t look like rain will fall anytime soon after that.

Met Eireann said: “High pressure will build near Ireland bringing a good deal of dry weather.”

Dublin looks set to see largely dry weather on Thursday night with “long, clear spells” and frost developing in some areas along with pockets of fog.

Met Eireann warned that temperatures could plunge as low as -2C in the capital while those along Atlantic coastal fringes will experience milder conditions.

The weather boffins said Friday will be a “mostly dry day” with sunny spells and temperatures reaching their max between 8C and 11C.

Looking towards Friday night, Met Eireann confirmed that Dublin looks set to miss out on rainfall.

‘HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN’

It explained: “Cloud looks set to increase from the Atlantic bringing outbreaks of rain to parts of the west and northwest.

“However, it looks set to hold largely dry elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 2C to 5C in moderate to fresh southerly winds.”

Met Eireann said that a weakening band of rain will push southeastwards over Ireland on Saturday – but rainfall amounts will be minimal.

Drier and clearer weather will develop and temperatures will max out that day between 8C to 11C.

Looking towards Sunday, Met Eireann said Dublin will remain mostly dry with sunny spells and temperatures reaching their highest between 9C to 11C.

And past that, conditions look set to stay nice and dry.

Met Eireann said: “Current indications suggest that high pressure will remain nearby, bringing largely dry weather for the early days of next week.”
