Regardless of opinions and ratings, Dexter: Original Sin has acted as a goldmine of information about the franchise as a whole. Proving the need for its existence, the series has been giving fans more and more pieces to add to the Dexter mosaic in an attempt to decode his mind.

One of the most unexpected parts of the first season was the special emphasis on Debra Morgan’s character. Although she has persistently stayed on the sidelines of the original show, her life, or love life, was one of the biggest focal points of this season.
While this helped fans understand that her toxic dating patterns date back to her adolescence, it has also added a new layer of creepiness to one of the most disturbing characters in the series.
Debra Morgan’s questionable dating history
Debra Morgan was a consistent part of Dexter’s story in the original series. He was a support system in a way and one of the few people that he actually cared about. At the same time, she certainly had some flaws when it came to her interest in men.

Throughout the series, fans saw her date some of the most bizarre and toxic men she could find. What made the situation all the worse was the fact that when she did find someone good, they were killed in some way or another. Starting off strong in the first seasons of Dexter, she was involved with Sean the Mechanic, who turned out to be married.
Then there was Brian Moser or Rudy Cooper, who was Dexter’s brother, a serial killer, and used her as bait to get to his younger sibling. Frank Lundy was much older than her and was killed in front of her. Sal Price was also killed, and Andrew Briggs was a wanted fugitive who was killed by her brother.
Dexter: Original Sin managed to take things to another level, showcasing that Debra’s poor taste in partners can be traced back to her teenage years. A lot of her arc was focused on the character of Gio Martino, who was a drug smuggler. While the conversation could simply end here, the ending of the first season managed to paint an eerie tone to fifteen years of Debra’s life.
Dexter: Original Sin adds a new perspective to one of Debra’s past relationship
Dexter’s biological brother, Brian Moser, was also a very important part of the first season of Dexter: Original Sin. As he tried to find his way to his brother, the series showcased quite an interesting insight into his perspective. It was his conversation with Harry that made fans think that he stepped back from his pursuit of his brother.

However, while he did agree not to intervene in Dexter’s life, he didn’t say anything about watching from afar. The series ends with a shot of Brian watching Dexter, Debra, and Harry dance, looking into the window of their lives as he subsequently did for the next fifteen years.
While his main goal was to observe Dexter, Debra’s and his lives were so closely intertwined throughout the years that he could not stalk Dexter without stalking his sister. With this in mind, Brian’s eventual relationship with her becomes even darker than it already was. Not only did he intrude into her life for her most formative years, but he also had all the information that he needed to get her to fall for him.

What makes it all the more skin-crawling is the fact that neither of them ever found out about the true extent of Brian’s stalking, leaving only the fans to have their stomachs turn at the knowledge.
