Luka Doncic dedicated his All-Star break to improving his conditioning, spending time in Cabo training with Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Scott Brooks, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. The workouts, held on a private outdoor court, lasted two hours each day and were supplemented by weightlifting sessions at his hotel gym.
The focused training regimen came as Doncic worked his way back into form following a two-month absence due to a calf strain. Since making his Lakers debut, the 25-year-old guard has appeared in four games, averaging 19 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Los Angeles has gone 2-2 during that stretch.
Doncic showcased his best performance since joining the Lakers in Saturday’s 123-100 victory over the Denver Nuggets. He finished with 32 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and a block, displaying improved rhythm and conditioning after the extended layoff. His play against Denver marked a significant step forward as he continues adjusting to his new team.
Luka Doncic, Lakers prepare for first matchup vs. Mavericks since blockbuster trade

The blockbuster trade that sent Doncic to Los Angeles in exchange for Anthony Davis reshaped both franchises. Dallas, with Irving leading the way while Davis deals with injury setbacks, has remained competitive in the Western Conference playoff race, while the Lakers have worked to integrate Doncic into their system alongside LeBron James. The transition period has shown flashes of Doncic’s elite playmaking and scoring ability, but chemistry with his new teammates is still developing.
Tuesday’s matchup against the Mavericks will mark Doncic’s first game against his former team since the February 2 trade. The Lakers enter the contest with a 34-21 record, positioning them as the fourth seed in the Western Conference. They remain within striking distance of the second-seeded Nuggets, trailing by just 2.5 games as they push toward the playoffs.
Tip-off against the Dallas Mavericks takes place at 10:00 p.m. ET on TNT, offering a high-profile stage for Luka Doncic’s first meeting with the franchise that drafted him in 2018.
