Recently, Arrowhead Game Studios gave Helldivers 2 players the game’s first-ever collaboration with a different IP. The Helldivers 2 and Killzone collab bundle featured some crazy items but its pricing raised many eyebrows. The studio quickly resolved the controversy and the success of this crossover seemingly confirms that the studio will give players more collaborations in the future.

The Automatons faction in the game is clearly inspired by other popular cyborgs or bio-mechanical organisms/robots such as the Autobots and Decepticons from the Transformers franchise. Imagine a crossover between Decepticons and Automatons but it will only happen if the community shows interest.
Johan Pilestedt explained that Helldivers 2 crossovers will only be possible when this one condition is met
Roughly one year ago, Helldivers 2 was released for the PlayStation 5 and Windows and quickly became a worldwide sensation. The CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios at the time, Johan Pilestedt, appeared for an interview with CGMag to discuss the game’s future. Pilestedt, who is now the Chief Creative Officer at Arrowhead, explained that guest appearances are on the studio’s to-do list, however, it will only work if this one condition is met,
I think it’s a community that has the seeds of a continuous evolution of the game, where there’s a dialogue between the developers and the community, so in the end, it’s the things WE expand the game into. So, if the community has a lot of great ideas or thoughts, we want to go in a certain direction and we want to be able to try to surprise and delight the community with updates that are appropriate. So, in that sense, it depends.
What this basically means is that Arrowhead Game Studios would love to work on crossovers but only if there is support from the community. The studio is known for prioritizing players’ feedback and has introduced new features that were suggested by fans.
So, yes, a Decepticons and Automatons crossover could happen in the future but only if the community shows excitement. Recently, an Arrowhead developer shared some interesting information about an upcoming crossover and fans have been tying this info to Hasbro’s announcement of reviving the Transformers video game franchise.
A collaboration with Helldivers 2 is probably the best way to popularise a new Transformers game since Helldivers 2 is currently one of the most popular third-person games in the world.
Arrowhead Game Studios gracefully shut down the Helldivers 2 x Killzone collab controversy

The collaboration with Guerrilla Games’ Killzone 2 created a lot of anticipation among the Helldivers 2 community, however, many were dissatisfied with the pricing. To make up for the unrealistic pricing, Arrowhead decided to give away the items in the second phase of this collaboration for free to all the players.
This is among many incidents where Arrowhead gave players what they wanted. Some would say that this is the bare minimum but many major video game developers prioritise revenue over player experience. Helldivers 2‘s subreddit has been a great platform for players to share their wild ideas, which Arrowhead might consider adding to the game if everyone loves it.
