Colin Farrell is currently leading as one of the most commendable A-listers in Hollywood, and it’s only because his epic performance in the recently released The Penguin series seems to have foreshadowed pretty much all of his past flabbergasting portrayals. Not only did the show earn tremendous acclaim, but it also granted the actor every award for his iconic performance.

That said, it’s only inevitable that fans desperately await a second season of the saga led by their beloved 48-year-old actor to make its way to the screens sometime soon. But as much as fans may be anticipating it, that season 2 materializing anytime soon seems rather unlikely, especially after Farrell’s truthful remark about just why he isn’t looking forward to making the same.
Colin Farrell confesses he isn’t looking forward to The Penguin S2
Colin Farrell still isn’t done bagging all the accolades he can for The Penguin, having recently picked up another honor at the Screen Actors Guild Awards after bagging all the other awards he was nominated for. But even after giving such a widely commended rendition that won’t stop winning him accolades, the actor is not so keen on having a second season made anytime soon.

At the recently held award ceremony, Variety asked him to shed light on the making of a sequel season to the masterpiece, to which he said, “I don’t want it. I don’t not want it. We all left it in the ring in those eight hours.” While that does sound not-so-encouraging, it’s not without some stellar reasoning. As The Batman star continued to explain:
I would hate to, just because of a quote-unquote success, have to go again and for it to be a diluted version of what people seem to feel it is, majoritively. So I’m in no rush. I have no deep desire to do it.
But he hasn’t closed the door entirely on it, for Farrell added, “Sure, if they think of something that works in conjunction as a parallel to Matt Reeves’ cinematic universe and it’s a good idea, I’m open to it. But it’s not something concerning me.”
In another interview with Variety, DC Studios co-chiefs Peter Safran and James Gunn were asked about the possibility of a second season of the said series as well, to which they said, “We don’t know. … There are a lot of moving pieces — probably most important Colin himself,” with Gunn adding, “And 800 pounds of makeup,” alluding to the extensive stuff the actor had to go through to transform for the role.
With that being said, pretty frankly, Colin Farrell’s being conflicted about doing season 2 of one of the best series of all time is rather disappointing. At the same time, his reasoning is rather justified too, for pulling off a storyline that ceases to live up to fans’ expectations would be worse than getting a sequel season in the first place and might even ruin the legacy of the show.
Fans react to Colin Farrell’s conflicted reaction about The Penguin S2

Following Colin Farrell’s comments about season 2 of The Penguin, fans have been having mixed opinions on the matter. On the one hand, while some of them understand the actor’s stance and prefer for the studios to not take the risk with a second season for fear of ruining the first’s legacy, on the other hand, other fans are asking them to not kill such an iconic character so soon.
All in all, taking to X, here’s what those fans have to say:
Given his “no rush” and “no deep desire” stance, it’d probably take a killer script or some serious convincing to get him back in the prosthetics.

Props for not wanting to ruin it . Let it rest and idle

Bummer, but I get it – let’s not mess with perfection, Penguin.

Please man, we finally got a great version of the character and he just stepped into his prime. Don’t let the character die now!

It’s always conflicting to do more of a show that was super good. Because doing even better is not an easy task and mostly fails. Wise to leave it as is and let it be remembered and become a classic!

I don’t blame him. It was perfect. He may have noticed what happened with Joker 2 and the backlash pic.twitter.com/DQb3fKvJvI

With all of this being put out there, it remains to be seen if a sequel season to the fan-favorite masterpiece would even get to see the light of day. On a more frank note, since the stakes are so high because of the first season’s perfection, it’s better to sit this one out until a really epic storyline pops up for season 2 that leaves an even better impact than the first one.
The Penguin can currently be streamed on Prime Video.
