PLUMAS COUNTY, Calif. – The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation following the discovery of human remains on Sunday in a remote area west of Clio State Route 40A.
The remains were initially discovered by a group of local dirt bike riders in a challenging terrain south of Highway 70. Due to the difficult nature of the location, it took until Monday for personnel from the Plumas County Search and Rescue team, along with detectives from the Sheriff’s Office, to access the site.
Upon reaching the location, authorities confirmed that the remains were human. However, the advanced state of decomposition, coupled with environmental factors, has hindered immediate positive identification.
Preliminary evidence at the scene suggests the remains may belong to Anthony Evans, a resident of Portola who was reported missing in December 2023. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the cause of death and confirm the identity through an autopsy.
The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information related to this case to contact them at (530) 283-6300.
